Up to date info on Sukhumvit hotels?

Thank feck!! ... finally managed to talk a mate o' mine into joining me on a fortnight's dive trip down Similan way and will have about 4 nights in Bangers at the end of March before flying back to the freezing UK.

Anyway.... looking for a hotel on Sukhumvit and yes I have done a search of previous posts but they seem a a bit outdated.

I have stayed at the Nana a few times but they appear to be full over the period in question... nice pool though :-)

Stayed at the Ruamchitt a few times too... wasn't too bad as long as you got one of the 'better' rooms. At 1600 baht a night it's a bit pricey though for what it is. Oh.... and it seems like the new high-rise next door must be the longest running building project I have ever seen (or rather... heard!).

Went to book in at the Ambassador last year and the lady on the counter was so unhelpful and rude I went elsewhere.

My mate is a tight wad and if the place is too expensive he will start nagging about sharing a twin room to keep costs down. Having just spent 2 weeks sharing a cabin on a fecking boat with him I am not really up for that! Cramping of the proverbial style or what???

So.... suggestions? Near BTS, walking distance to the fun, potentially guest friendly in case of uncontrollable urges to reaquaint myself with the female form brought about by being trapped at sea with a 16 stone St Helenian scuba diver called Steve...

    Anyone?

Dynasty Inn Grande (not to be confused with the Dynasty Inn). You go down Soi 4 past the Nana and almost to the end of the road, then you turn left just past a little seafood outdoor restaurant onto the cut-through Soi between Soi 4 and 6. Quiet. Acceptable pool. Good coffee shop. Nice rooms. Cheaper to book it on line. I stay there every year; most recently in November. Pleasant staff. Close to everything. Look it up on line. In November, they were renovating he front part, so the room selection was more limited than usual, but there was no construction noise that we could hear. They might be finished by March.

Dynasty Grande is ok, it is on Soi 6 which runs between Soi 4 and Soi 8.

I don't think he wants OFF the beaten track.
I think he wants to be right on the beaten track.

Try City Lodge on the corner of Soi 9 and Sukhimvit. About 1300 baht for a small but clean room. You can spit onto Nana BTS from the window and its girl-friendly with 24 hour security.

Ooooh, I was only trying to help, some people say they wanna be on the beaten track cos they are green as grass then later on complain about the noise and mayhem and wish they were in a quieter part of town.

Why not compromise by booking a hotel on Sukhumvit and have Nasa Vegas as a reserve just in case.

Divide the clothes in your suitcase between the two places.

No pool but a perfect location, clean with big rooms and a good rate of 1,200.00 Baht per night.

Thanks for your responses folks... am checking each of 'em out. Keep 'em coming.... a personal recommendation is worth SO much more than the usual marketing hype that you get on all those price-comparison type websites that list several hundred hotels etc (. And yes, although we don't wanna be fighting through 'whordes' of FLs, sock and sandal tourrorists and beggars just to get out the door to get a beer from the seven, we also don't wanna be trecking miles and miles either!

Shame more don't have a pool, doesn't have to be mahoosive, just somewhere to chill out for a few hours with a beer during the afternoon like the Nana has. Spent quite a few afternoons there recharging before the forthcoming night out... And at the rooftop pool at the Ruamchitt actually although it's a pain getting any poolside lovelies to bring the next cold one... Has anyone noticed if they have finished that bloody high-rise next door to it while passing by?

God fecking dammit!! Now my oppo has just cancelled on me... seems he had a barny with his missus tonight and now she won't let him go... or rather even though she originally suggested he came with me on the trip, she has now 'withdrawn her consent'. WTF??????

So having spent weeks running about arranging and re-arranging liveaboard boats that suited his budget, dates that suited his work commitments (and swapped all of my shifts about by calling in favours etc) and meeting every other feckin' whim of his, NOW he fecking cancels on me!!! Grrrr!!!

Ok ... dilemma... go for it anyway on my own or knock it all on the head? It's a bit of a bore being stuck on a dive boat for days on end without anyone to get pissed with in the evenings... or to train smashed into a boatfull of couples or groups of people who all know each other and only ever dive once a year (if that) so only get about 20 mins out of a cylinder of gas.

Bollox!!... those runs ashore in deepest darkest Thailand are gonna be a bit quieter without a mate to create mischief with too.... Double Grrrrr!!!

Perhaps with him being an 'Islander' it was the thought of seeing so many dark-skinned women that weren't directly related to him that prevented him from wearing the pants in his own house.

What to fecking do now...... ???

Oh, and sorry about the rant...

^Jaysus - pussy-whipped, or what? He would be off of my "mates" list immediately. What an asshole thing to do to a friend, especially after all of the planning, schedule juggling, etc. His wife probably planned this all along. Ain't white women special.....

I say still go solo..many barstools in bars along Sukhumvit have ex-special forces operatives with yarns to tell, you may learn a thing or two.

LateStays.com (if you book 14 days or less from the check-in date) has some smokin' deals- they've got rooms at the Dream Hotel on soi 15 (which is a really nice place if you're looking for higher-end accommodation) for less than 2200 baht.

Last thing my white ex-wife ever said to me was "If you buy that motorcycle, don't come home!"

    I did. And I didn't.
