Standards pretty low even in VIP sections. Slower than bus as well even on Express Line. I would stick with the bus.

I like the trains meself, I just don't trust the bus drivers...

How many hours is the trip? 4? I'd get the train meself - the 3rd class is poor, the second class may not be available of that train (you won't need a sleeper), the 1st class is expenseive and for overnight trips/sleeps. A shortish journey like that is maybe via a crappy 3rd class carriage, which won't be pleasant at all... If you can get a second class (probably the one where all the seats (in pairs) face the same way and half the seats are borken, it should be okay. mmm, maybe the bus for that particular trip.

well i did it, not to bad really apart from the train being cancelled and having to wait two hours for a replacement. allocated seat, aircon worked, beer guy walking up and down carriage every 20 mins, nice scenery, and straight to bua yai whereas the bus drops me of 15k away. took longer than the bus, 6 hours instead of 4 1/2 but whats the rush, price the same as the bus so all good really
