Can anyone help a new english teacher living in Ladprao?

    Hey everyone,
Im Louise , I have just started teaching English in Ladprao, Bangkok. I am in the Satri witthaya 2 school and living next to it.
I have no clue of whats around the area to do for week days after teaching. I cannot go into Bangkok as it takes ages and is more my weekend thing.
I would be sooooo happy if any one could tell me more about parks , places i could perhaps go and swim ( i dont mind if i have to pay a small fee for a private area), shopping, cinema, restaurants , bars ,cycling ect
I usually try to take the bus as taxi's arent always that cheap and im on the teacher salary now

I live by the Naiwarn shopping complex so i know about that one and the Big C, that is all.

    Thank you

Dude?? Louise is a chick's name.

This may be too obvious but are there any other English teachers there, or English speaking Thais that you could ask? When I lived in Pak Nam I was given a little tour of the area by a very kind Thai teacher from the school I was teaching at.

Ok my mistake, read too fast. Hmm... I don't know where to start. I've been living in Ladprao the last 6 years now, moving to Sukhumvit next month. I'm at ladprao soi 3, near Central Ladprao. So It's a bit away from where you live Louise. As for parks, the closest one would be at Jatujak weekend market, there is one north of the market. As for things to do, that would be Central Ladprao for me, and rubbing shoulders with the Thai's. Swimming, I'm not sure. There is a pool where I live but I never use it.

If you continue on Ladprao rd, you'll come to The Mall Bangkapi as you might know. From there you can take a canal boat right down to Central World in central BKK, I thought that was quite cool when I first did it... Don't wear skirt though :-)

I'll try to come up with more things to do, have to ask my friend who also live here.
-- I'm not completely useless. I can be used as a bad example. --

Guess what Louise, Ladprao is IN Bangkok. I don't know what soi you are near. I live near Soi 80. You should learn to use the city bus system since the MRT only services the lower end of Ladprao. Chatuchak park and weekend market, Central Ladprao and the Mall Bangkapi are easily reachable by bus.
I suppose that you are refering to the Big C at Imperial World. That is a mall catering to locals and is not going to be of much interest to you.

She isn't on Thanon Lad Prao, she is in Lad Prao district, along the Big C expressway almost up at Ram Intra.Louise, for some good local nightlife very close to you, check out this place :: Tawandang German Brewery :: and also look for a place called Yes Indeed which has western live music (performed by Thais). For nearby shopping and cinemas, check out this place http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashion_Island_(Thailand) , which should only take a few minutes to get to by taxi and be quite cheap. There are lots of buses heading that way too. Buses will also get you to this nearby place Siam Park City which I believe has the largest inland manmade beach in the world.

I think she is on Chokchai 4 between Ladprao Rd. and Nawamin Rd. Thats still a fair bit from Ram Intra. Lots of activity around there. Great restaurants but very little night life for farangs unless they blend well with the locals.

The one in Soi 35 is a karaoke bar where, for a price, some pretty young ladies will sit with you and drink overpriced cola. Not sure whether they have any English songs, better check first as this is really a Thai venue.

I used to live in Soi 35/2

Down Soi Satri Wittaya from the school in the entrance to the driving range is a bar where they have Ballroom Dancing lessons. Maybe not your thing but is a life skill like riding horses. Would fill one evening a week?

Get yourself a bus map and yes from the Mall Bangkapi you can easily get downtown on the "Sewer Jet" although from you if you continue west on Chok Chai 4 Soi 72 across and then down Soi 69 there is another ferry on the klong.

Alternate Sundays you can run with Siam Sunday Hash. Meet at statue in Lumpini Park at 3pm.

It's no fun alone but give it time.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Yeah, Closed over 2 years or so. The place was pretty good with live music. (it was the place about 100m down the Soi on the right hand side coming in from Lad Prao).
Had some pretty hot girls playing violins and shit with a few blokes blowing on trumpets and trumbones like the Star Wars bar scene. Also had some fat chick with short spikey hair belt out "Hey, Big Spender" everynight.
Probally shut down because it was like Groundhog day their. Alright if you went once every blue moon but if you popped in more than twice a month then all you saw was the same routine time after time.
I used to enjoy the full set up of Earth Wind and Fire's "Fantasy". There used to be about a 29 piece band up there belting that fucker out!
Ahhhhhhh. Days gone by. Another nice place reduced to memory.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

really.......oh well at least I had the right location.

It used to be a very popular venue when I went there, but they did alter the theme a bit last time and it didn't work as well for me, but the food was always good.

Actually as I said, last time I went the big band with the hot violinists and even hotter cellist had gone and there was a smaller jazz band who were nowhere near as much fun. Used to be a regular haunt from work as I work not too far away, but these days the comapny is far less sociable.

I used to like the guy with the twitch who used to do Delilah.....
