    BKK To Hua Hin

Any idea how long it takes to drive? Would have a van/driver and leave about 0700 and return about 1400 the next day.

    3-4 hours depending on traffic.

I did the trip every weekend. Average about 2 hours. In a van think you would be looking at about 2.5 hours. Driving distance about 200 km.

2.5 hours if you drive fast from central Bangkok.

Left at 7:30 in the morning and it took us a little less than three hours. Not a bad ride, but rather boring countryside betwwen BKK and there.

if you are prepared to spend an extra hour on the journey, there is a scenic route that follows the coast. turn left off the main road just past don hoi lordt, (it is signposted to cha am/hua hin) and it will take you all the way down to cha am.

mud flats, mangrove swamps, moonscape like salt pans, remote little fishing communities, an ugly oil terminal and good eating places too.

OK found it now, it's on the H35.

I didn't realise that road was tarmac all the way, looks like you need a ferry on my map.
    Looks a very interesting route

    no ferries involved

turn left (south) off the 35 on to the 2021 near the amphawa( north) turnoff, follow the road to phraek nam daeng, yisan, then the 4012 to bang thabun, ban thabun ok, ban laem, then the 4028 to ban khun sai and pak thale and haad chao samran and on to cha am.

the roads are very poorly signposted, but its not too hard a route to follow, and although we always make wrong turns, usually ending up in strange little fishing communities, we always find our way back.

its a world away from the trucks, buses and ribbon development of the main phetkasem highway.
