Best way to find land ?

I am looking for a nice piece of land directly at a lake or river in an area 1 hour (at daytime) away from Bankok city.
I want to buy it for and in the name of my wife, which is thai and i know that i can´t own land.

After doing some online research all i found was one piece which i want to inspect end of this year.

So now i would like to ask where else i could search ? Is there a good website where people offer land? Is there a market leader land agent which i could contact?
Any other idea where i could ask or search?

    Thanks for your help

O.K. Kune Nothing. One of the best ways to find land for sale is from any of the major banks in Thailand. All of these banks regularly accept land and houses as collateral for a loan. When the person borrowing the money defaults the banks end up owning the land ( which they don't really want ).

Online you can check what properties the banks have as they publish them all online. Alternatively, if you are in Thailand you can call into a bank and ask to see a list of what they are holding and how much they want for it.

Here is just one link to the properties held by the bangkok bank, As it is in thai you will need your wife to help you read what is on offer :

    Properties for Sale

You should end up here, which is land for sale in Nonthaburi, west of Bangkok where there are many canals and a few rivers.

    Heres another link :

Just search on google and there are a lot more. It just takes patience.

one of the best ways to find land is to go to the area you are interested in and drive or walk around for an hour or so.

any plots for sale will have little notices, often handwritten, stuck on the fence or posts, if you see any plot you like then ask the nearest shopowner or resident who owns it and is it for sale. its amazing the information you can glean this way.

and in dealing directly with the owners you may be also able to avoid dealing with the profiteering middlemen who infest and infect the land business.

a falang face asking for land will always raise the price a bit, best stay in the car out of sight, or even better at home, and let your wife do the talking.

I recall the Kasikornbank in particular had a website or other featuring repo'd property and land.
Paddy land in areas with falang related connections is increasing at silly rates and must be now approaching bubble prices.. but since this is Thailand and orthodox economic principles don't apply it may be worth a punt.

    Thanks a lot guys.
Google i check once a week.
Driving arround i tried once, but that wasn´t that effectiv. I think it works better in smaller areas like phuket.
The banks are a good idea.

Humans are usually called "who", not "which", unless you want to say that your wife is an "it" - but maybe that's appropriate from somebody whose nickname indicates that he's nobody?

Phuket is a big place and even here you would have to decide which area of the island you like to buy, and not cheap these days in Phuket for land.

Try driving along river road between Chet Samien and Photharam, Ratachaburi province. All sorts of river front property for sale. Not cheap though.

Probably the best advice. This is what we have done several times.

Try Nong Jok in the far northwest of Bangkok, plenty of land around there and one of the cheapest places in Bangkok to buy it. Plus there's plenty of water, as it floods due to water Swampy airport being diverted there during the rainy season. So no need to pay a premium for lakefront land, you get it for free in your moobaan for weeks on end at this time of year.
