    Pantip Plaza

I live in Pattaya, but would gladly come to Bangkok to buy a 21-24" monitor and a CD player, provided the price is right(cheaper than here in Pattaya).
If you don't know the price range for both(or either), is there an on-line web site I can go to to get that quote?

I Googled Pantip Plaza, but ran into a dead end.

I honestly can't believe that with the cost of travelling to BKK and buying in Pattaya that it would be viable. May be someone can show me to be wrong ?

I found prices in Pattaya are 10 - 20% higher than Fortune Town for accessories. Can't say for a large item.

Fortune Town on Rama IX will probably see you better than Pangthip. Going there will certainly be less annoying.

    It's Cheap

The cost is 99 baht via A/C minibus each way to Victory Monument. Believe me, it pays...

How much do you value a 4 hour round trip in a cramped minivan, doing 190kph while less than a metre from the truck in front?

Much better all around and easy access from undergound.

The annoyance factor seems to have reduced a lot in Pantip these days, if by annohyance you mean hassle to buy "sexy movies", etc. When they have some kind of show on the ground floor with microphones blaring at ear-splitting volume it's still pretty annoying though. Which is most days actually, thinking about it. Oh.....

Pha Ram 9 station. On the undergound (MRT). Not the skytrain.

    Google

Fortune Town is better organized than Panthip (which is a total zoo). However, it significantly smaller, and NOT cheaper for LCD monitors (I shopped for one in both places).

Not familiar with current prices, I think the only way to find out is to look around (many shops in Panthip sell same crap at different prices, often negotiable). I doubt you'll save enough to justify the trip to BKK, unless you're about to go anyway.

Btw, if you're flying abroad (even a neighboring country) within 3 months of the purchase, do get the 7% VAT refund (when you buy, they give you a yellow form). Theoretically, you have to show the product at the airport, but they rarely if ever ask.

It's 2:00-2:30 hours, leaving every 15-30 min, and for 97 baht is quite a deal.

You're exaggerating on the safety issues - last time I went the driver drove at only 180 km/h, and was almost 1.5 m behind the guy in front :P It actually depends on the company, some drivers are more sedate than others.

Carefour has good prices on that stuff.

A lot easier than wading through the scumbags and pickpockets at Pantip.

    I can tell...

you've never taken the trip. The minibuses are very comfortable, soft seats, maximum 9 persons, air-conditioned and the trip takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. The buses run every 40 minutes from 8 AM to 8PM.
When I walk out of the bus just outside of Victory Minument, I'm in the center of Bangkok. No stops, just a straight shot.

Depends on how you're describe comfortable. Have you ever had to sit in the front and really see how the driver drives. Were you comfortable then?
and the trip takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Perhaps a bit more. Let's call it a 4 hour round trip to round it off.

It's quite ironic that I can tell that you've never taken the trip if you disagree with with my opinions on how they drive:

doing 190kph while less than a metre from the truck in front

    How FaR is MBK...

from National Stadium BTS? Anyone know how electronics prices are there? Compared to Fortune Town and Pantip Plaza?

^ they don't have computer supplies at MBK, only Panthip or Fortune. MBK is connected to the National Stadium BTS station. Panthip is 5 minutes away from MBK by cab and 20 minutes walking. Fortune is on the MRT Underground at Asok station.

Be wary of getting cabs outside MBK (and to a lesser degree Panthip) as it is rip-off central and don't even consider a tuk-tuk any where around those areas.
