The state of the roads and footpaths in Bangkok

Is anyone else as pissed off as I am with the appalling state of repair of paths and roads in Bangkok? The recent building boom around Sukhumvit seems to have left the area in such a dangerous state that people's health and safety really is at risk. I know of one lady who recently fell on a pavement and broke her front tooth and smashed up her face. This is the footpath outside the new block on the corner of Sukhumvit 25:

This isn't a new situation. The pavements have been like this for at least 6 months now, and there's no sign that things will get better. This is one of the busiest sections of Sukhumvit Road and thousands of residents and tourists need to walk around here every day. The problems stretch for 3 kilometres down both sides of Sukhumvit.

Last year they resurfaced Sukhumvit Road from Asok down to Onnut. They must have used the same contractors who built the new airport as the road now has more holes than a Bangkok brothel. I cycle up and down here every day (yes, that's my bike in the photo above) and in the last 3 days this massive hole has appeared just after Soi 39:



The rest of the main road really isn't so much of a better state. Don't know who was responsible for the resurfacing work but they should be put in jail.

Are you as f***ed off as me with the way the infrastructure seems to be disintegrating daily? Is it the same where you live if you're not in Bangkok?
To me it's like the last breath of a dying man. They're desperately clinging on to life by putting up as many new buildings as possible, forgetting that almost every apartment block and shopping centre is plagued with vacancies. The arteries get clogged and the bones crumble away but Bangkok stuffs itself full of riches in a last desperate attempt to stay alive.

you haven't see the Prakhanong flyover, it's much worse than that.

Actually, I have. Problem is, it's far too dangerous for me to stop and take a photo. They've half built an extension to the flyover, but seem to have run out of willpower.

And making a U Turn under that flyover in the narrow tunnel below it is even more scary, and yet thousands of cars go through it every day.

Works start and stop every 3 days. They will never finish it.

Your a braver man than me, then again it is probably quicker than public transport

Yes, that looks like standard Thai footpath/sidewalks,, they are about the same anywhere in the country, if they are in better shape then they use them for motorcycle parking lots and vendor food courts, so it is impossible to walk on em anyway.

You are safer out in the middle of the street than to walk on a sidewalk after dark in most citys because the open holes are hard to see unless it is daylight.

The best example of Thai couldn't give a fuck attitude is when some one required a drainage pipe along the road in vicinity of Soi 33. So these lazy pricks just lay the pipe on top of the foot path and then throw some cement on top of it.
In Udon here, they have built half of a wonderful new Flyover, but currently lost interest so its been a no visible progress state for a few months now, meantime the road on either side has been well dug over and then thrown back down again.
Situation normal, country run by a bunch of incompetant goons, lining their pockets and pissing on every body below them.

You are safer out in the middle of the street than to walk on a sidewalk after dark in most citys because the open holes are hard to see unless it is daylight.

And if you focus on the holes in the ground, you'll scalp yourself with a protruding corrugated roof or get hanged on a low electric cable...

Did not get to see bangkok on my visit, but the roads seem to be bad everywhere, shocking up and around Roi Et but saying that i live around the worst roads in the uk as voted for, but after being Thailand they seem a luxury now

The footpaths have been finished now where I am at Prakhanong. They have raised the footpaths by pouring 6 inches of concrete on what already was there.This was done because they resealed Sukhumvit with a few inches of tar seal some months ago making the road higher than the footpath. Not much thought seems to have gone into it though because walking on the footpath you have to step down into alot of the shops and also all the shop veranders are to fuc-in low now. It's currently ok for the short Thais but the next time they decide to reseal they may start to get pissed off as well after scalping themselves.
