A morning ride to Ko Kred.

Ko Kret - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lovely little place to get away from life in central Bangkok for a few hours.

Was up early, left Silom at 7:20, zoomed up Vipawadee-Rangsit and turned onto Chaeng Wattana at 8:05. Not bad for monday morning rush hour. Was a lovely drive with blue sky, cool morning air and 5 wide lanes.

    Google maps

Now you can possibly take yer motorbike over from the Nonthaburi side, but not from the Pak Kred side, no real need to anyway, the path circumnavigating the island is only just over 5km, and you can rent out bikes for 40b... I was gonna walk it as I haven't actually walked in about 6 years, but luckily sense kicked in and got one of the bikes, very luckily as it happens. By 10:30 it was at least a trillion % humidity and I would have been found dead under a palm tree shrunk to the size of an infant otherwise.

River life under Rama IV bridge:

Map of Ko Kred on the wall of a local wat:

You can get the boat across from under the Rama IV bridge, but I went down to the left to get the boat from Wat Klang Pak Kret. Asked the old lady how much, she held up two fingers, I gave her 20 baht, she gave me back 18... a 2 baht ferry ride, I doubt there's much cheaper anywhere on the planet.

Plus I got make to a new friend:

    The famous leaning chedi.

    Ko Kred traffic jam:

Tending to the family fruit... a tough life:

local school playing field could do with a little work:

    some sanook:

Aww, ain't that cute, three little children playing with an 8 inch scissors:

Back home eating lunch by 11:30.

Sorry smeden, that's about it... I can't imagine how the people lived there without the elevated concrete pathway circumnavigating the island though, as most of the land is about 12 inches under sludgy black water, including the school.

They are only Mon people though, so it doesn't really matter.

Should add that interestingly enough, they all spoke Lao and not Thai.

Nice pictures CM. I went there a few years back with the gf. At that time you could take a boat trip right around the Island for about 100 baht. A very nice trip.

Yes, think they have those offered from underneath Rama IV bridge... wouldn't be bad with a big umbrella above your head and an ice box full of cold beers.
