    Siam Niramit Theater!

Does anyone have any experience with this show? The map places it across from the Thailand Cultural Center, in Huaykwang, Bangkok.

Looking at their website (Siam Niramit : Journey to the Enchanted Kingdom of Siam), it seems like a good idea for at least one evening out. I would like to try to include it in our next trip back to Thailand.

I'm looking for any comments or experiences about the Acts in the series.

I think the replies will be few and far between, TW. Culture doesn't seem to be a strong feature among us lot.

    Thank you Marmite!

I thought about that also, but that is OK. I just found this website and thought one of the members of this forum may have known about it. I'll try to see the show anyway next time I'm in town.

TW: I have not personally been but I know many Thais who have been and love it.

Seems to be the real thing and the program changes depending on the time of year...
it's expensive...but for you 'expat thais' it will be cheap!

If you go please write a report to encourage us plebs to get off our bums and get some culture too!

Thank you for your reply Klongmaster, and I appreciate the input. I think the reason the show may be kind of expensive is due to targeting the tourist. I am amazed that people would pay big money to watch second category women (Kathoey) shows, but not the real thing.

I believe I know the story shown at the Siam Niramit Theater, but I would like to see how they present it. If I'm allowed, I will certainly try to get a few good pictures and will report to you all about it. If all goes well, the visit may be toward the end of this year.

If you and George are over towards the end of the year, maybe you'll be here for our Teak Door piss-up?

    Western culture at it's best!

I've been....funny...i got tickets discounted to 800B, but they insisted any Thai's in the party would have to pay the full 1500B.

    Dual pricing......disgusting....LOL

My wife took her UK Passport and showed it to them when she was questioned.....

There was a deal recently whereby a free complimentary ticket was handed out with every ThB 1,500 full-price one. So Por and I went along to this last night and, at ThB 1,500 for two people, this is a tremendous night out.

Thais enjoy the cultural aspect, and for them there will be at least one representation of their own region.

For tourists it represents a very entertaining show with live elephants, goats, chickens, and a stage with a klong running through it. All the usual dances, mythical creatures, and fabulous costumes.

For foreigners such as myself who have grasped some of the culture it helps fill in a few gaps whilst being entertaining too.

The first act presents scenes depicting the old Lanna culture, the Ayutthaya period, the Southern and Northeastern regions.

After the depictions of real-life Thai history, the second act presents Thai mythology and festivals such as Songkran and Loy Krathong. This act either convinces you Thailand is charming, or weird, depending upon your outlook.

Be advised, one member of the audience is selected to play a Thai musical instrument and yours truly was last night's victim. It was a hoot but I can see how some might find it irritating - especially those watching!

When they come to the representation of Loy Krathong a few people in the audience are handed giant krathongs to float on the klong. This made Por's evening as she was handed one. The sight of the krathongs floating offstage to a dimmed theatre is a fitting end to a well-presented scene.

If you live in Bangkok and are either interested in Thai culture or just like a good show I would easily recommend it as a very entertaining night out.

Just one word of warning. Do not plan on eating at the restaurant. Thankfully we didn't but those who did were clearly quite fed up. Apart from the infuriating voucher system meaning patrons have to buy vouchers before ordering anything, there is only one person serving food, and she has to manually record everything she sells. Absurd isn't the word. Get there around 6pm though as there is plenty to see before the show commences.

This is a highly professional, polished, show. Well worth the money and the time.

EG have you been to see this yet?

There was an offer of a free meal if you bought a full-price ticket. Bet nobody told the girl serving the food though.
