TV cable - True - UBC around Bangkok

Just moved from upcountry to the city, have to get connected by internet and tv...

In Korat there is a cable for 300 thb per month, around 60 channels, was good !

I am studying now with who to connect, there is UBC for 1'500 per month i believe and there is TRUE for different packages starting 340 thb per month to over 2000 thb per month for the Platinum...

TRUE seems to have the advantage of offering Internet as well...

I could as well buy a dish and get channels from malysia in a tricky way where i have to upload new connection password every few month from internet as some people i heard are doing...

Maxnet internet was ok in korat but people do not recommend it here...

I have actual Phone line by TOT ( supposed to b connected 10 days ago but after showing up 3 times, it still not works ! )

There is a way to get all the channels through internet i heard, you need another buddy in The US and he can send over with the help of some equipment....

Any advice on todays technology - or company to get tv and internet connection around BKK ?

^ The pasting not really worked as planned, it is about fliptube...

True is asking 2800 thb deposit for internet and 100 thb for delivery, there will be no return as i suppose it pays the modem, a new phone number comes with this internet connection...

For TV, there is a fee of 2'000 thb with TRUE UBC , refunded if contract finished + the monthly fee depending on package choosed, i'm looking at the cheap package of 340 thb actually, has TV5, the channel i watch 90% of my TV time in Thailand...

Here is my advice. I've had True for the last 7 years and as of tomorrow night it is no more. Don't bother with it. Just have them install the best possible internet conection that they have and download all the stuff that you want.

Since joining this site I've followed all the instructions in the computer news forums and learned how to download torrents of the latest tv shows and movies and I've now not switched my ubc on for a month. That was my test to myself, if I didn't use it for a month I'd get rid of it. (thanks to lom, Melvbot and the techy boys!)

This is gonna save me 2500 or whatever it is a month part of which I'm going to upgrade my conection with.

+even though my wifes English has always been very good, I think she had kind of relaxed on learning anything new over the years. She now has no choice but to watch without subtitles and her English language is getting even better.

^ i have kids and they like watching tv...

It is some times good to see them quiet in front of the box, we stop th shows before they get square eyes...

I'd be happy having TV5 again, seems to be a village without cable where i am now... only TRUE or a dish to be purchased as far as i know...

UBC is crap. I cancelled it last month and it is not missed at all. Overpriced and the selection is complete shit. Just download everything and burn them onto disc and watch them on tv. I'm sure there are things you could download for your kids as well.

UBC is the former name of TrueVison, they are the same thing. True Internet is different then TrueVisons, but owned by the same parent company. If you sign up for TrueVison and True Internet, you will get two seperate monthly statements.

I have the TrueVisons Platinum package. Probably not worth it, but there are no real [legal] alternatives. Also have the True Internet, and it works....

^ complete rip off. They do it for free most of the time under the guise of a special offer.

You'd be mad to pay that sort of money to install True Visions, it being a wholly substandard product, whichever package you decide upon.

Got rid of True Visions months ago, and I am all the better for it, never regretted or missed it once. Unfortunately, I still have their internet, a 16Mb connection, but it is nowhere near that speed most of the time.

Their customer service is atrocious and their sales patter annoying and pushy.

    UBC is utter crap.
I currently have the full package. And still there is nothing but constant repeats.
In reality I am paying 24,000baht a year just to watch CNN.
    Fuk that!
Time to do what right and cut the connection!

^ If yhou got a similar package in the US, you would pay about $15 s month.

They are total crap and I really think Thais feel "Hi-So" having that ugly red dish bolted to their shack.

Yes thats the way, No TV and no cable, I don't want them watching that Thai stuff any way.
Just download a pile of kids programs, put them on DVD and USB they watch them as they like. That supplements the learning programs they use on the internet, starfall etc. works well and they don't miss the overpriced crap from UBC at all.
