What hotels do you like staying at in BKK?

When you go to BKK, which hotel do you like to stay in? Do you go for an inexpensive one? One that gives you breakfast? Just looking for opinions. Thanks!

    I like the Windsor suites.

I go to Bangkok very rarely, so when i do, I am happy to stay in a nice plush one.

Of course most of the reprobates on here would prefer the sort of low end dive where they can take their latest hooker without people looking at them all funny.

We always stay at the Ambassador. I realize some people don't like it, but we keep going back. Decent rates, good breakfast, nicely renovated public areas and a great location.

As I try to limit my stay to overnigth I'm not too bothered about the quality.

Swiss Park on soi 11 is my first call - mainly because I am too lazy to find anywhere else.

Windsor Suites is nice and if I needed a place for meeting clients that would be my choice too.

Chatleau de Bangkok on Ploenchit is great for a suite type, 5 stars , a kitchen, big living room, big sleeping room, jacuzzi, huge double bathroom all in marble...

they give it away for 3'600 thb on place of normally 8'200 thb if you ask for walk in special rate...

I not yet found my real place for the so many times i go to bkk, but i for sure know lots of them...

Has anyone stayed at the Tai Pan on Suk Soi 23?

I always recommend it because it's about 200m away, but I've never actually stayed there.

A few years back, it was pretty tired then, have they renovated lately? - If not it's going to be really tired now!

I tend not to stay there that often and when I do, it's the same as DD just somewhere to sleep, I've always got the car with me so it has to have parking. Stayed in the Woraburi down past Nana a few times, nothing special but easy to get to and about 800-1200/night. I can be in central Suk for my place in 2.5 hrs though so most things we need to do we just go there and back.

I like to stay in the Athenee Plaza as well on the wireless road, true 5 star experience for only around 6k, something you will pay back in Europe for some 3 star without any standing...

This about where i like to stay !

As DD and random i often just crash only for a nigth and without a booking my choice is often the PB hotel near Soi 3, The bed sheets are changed extremely often in this hotel !!!
800 Thb or so, big rooms and i never book it but always receive a room when needed... It is conveniently located near the way out and in from the Highway and very central in the city for my personnal needs...

It is downstairs a 3 hours curtain place but can be used as a family hotel on second floor, .....

Bourbon Street, Washington Square - Stayed there for about a month while trying to sort out a half decent apartment 6 years ago. Around 800-1000 a night that time, I think. Simple, basuc place, but clean and nice rooms, friendly staff (ended up dating the receptionist later), the breakfast coupon is valid all day (big plus!), the bar is non plus ultra.
Any error in tact, fact or spelling is purely due to transmissional errors...

Every now and then I like to stay at a five star.

They are really half the price of a corresponding hotel in any western country and are affordable every now and then even on local hire salaries.

Having said that, before moving here, I usually stayed at the Asia. Tired, I know, but nice and close to my arrival point of Victory and right on the BTS. Minibar, breakfast, a couple of good swimming pools...for around 1400 a night.

I've always been curious about the Atlanta. Their ridiculous attitude aside, it looks like a cool place; an ambience from another time that may not have really existed. I had a glance at the lobby once and always have sort of wanted to stay there.

Well, I'm about to get my chance. Upon my return from the States Ms. B and I are going to spend two nights there. That is, if I don't get booted for looking like a sex tourist....

    Anyone else stayed there?

you guys like to waste money on hotels!!

as DD said, they are only for sleeping, so as long as they are clean and comfortable, and in a good location, who cares about the stars

I know a couple of places around 500baht a night, no stars and near MBK and the skytrain
    I have reported your post

I beg to differ - I have many happy memories from Bangkok hotels, but none of them involved sleeping.......

I usually stay a the Ambassador too. The rooms in the tower wing are the better ones. I hated the tiny old rooms. I'm told the also have efficiency type condos for rent.

I also like the Dynasty for price and ambiance. I like the coffee shop and happy hour usually hosts a crusty old high mileage expat or two.

My mates mostly use the federal when they visit. 1000baths per night and 5 mins. from nana plaza.

    I have shallow friends

I stay in the same guesthouse in Soi Sapan Khu, not far from Malaysia Hotel.

Quiet, like at home as I know the owner & wife for 15 years, can even cook myself as long as I clean the dishes after. Open fridge, write in a book for the drinks and pay at the end. Free style as the owner like to say

I have always liked the landmark hotel; however the last time I stayed there it was in need of a refit.

One of my worst hotel experiences ever was the Ambassador (circa 2003).
    threadbare blanket
    no TV remote
    VERY little ac
    mosquitoes like vultures
    very low water pressure
    burnt out light bulbs
    I could go on...

Perhaps they've cleaned up a bit, but by all accounts, it was a shithole. I'll have to check it out again.

Usually if I'm going in to LOS from the USA I'll stay at Baiyoke Sky or somewhere decent in/around Pratunam. If it's going out from LOS back to US then a cheap hotel is fine.

Jasmine Suites near Soi Cowboy isn't bad either, almost like a complete apartment for about 3,000 per night.
