The Londoner pub - what a dull old place.

Well I finally visited one of the so-called 'best known pubs in Bangkok' last night for the first time -a.k.a 'The Londoner' (soi 33)

I'll have to say that I was a shade disappointed - boring as fuck the place was - just civilised office folk sitting down for meals, boring music and overpriced beer.

Talking about beer I paid 150B for a pint of 'Londoner Pilsner' - fuck me it tasted like a Boots home brew affair. At least the 'Bulls Head' does a pint of Tiger which actually tastes like draught lager.(err..probably 'cos it is)

Anyway thought I'd have a moan - anyone here frequent the Londoner and am I missing something?

Not a bad place. However, one drawback was that the place was filled full of Brits...

ok for a nice drink with a few friends, definitely not British Pub or a place to get drunk. Ok for a conversation with guests. Serious drinking happens in Nana and those other places.

I don't mind the Londener at all. I like a good microbrew every now and then. Its not the best, but still better than any Thai beer. I used to go to the Londoner every time that I was in Bangkok until Marmite turned me on to the Bull's head. He posted a thread about British/Irish pubs, so I am branching out after reading it. Whatever the imperial pint was that Marmite bought me was the best brew available in Thailand. Next round will be on me.

^well I was fairly skint until yesterday - ie: pay day.

I don't recall saying anything about sniffing girls panties down the KSR - most of them aren't that attractive.

Now I'm relatively rich as I have only 2-3 wks to spend a month's salary (and yes, I do have a one-way ticket home as well).

The pilsner is not too bad actually. The problem with most lager drinkers is that they are used to drinking tasteless fizz (like Tiger) and can't handle a beer that has any depth of taste.

You should have tried the bitter - that's one of the worst beers I have ever tasted (even worse than Singha or Chang).

reinvented has disabled reputation
i go to thr londoner twice a month for the quiz
quiz aside the place doessuck balls

the beer is below par, they changed the pilsner so it tastes like shandy now, i actually sent 2 back thinking they had give me shandy by mistake and thr food is well overpriced.

still quiz nights a giggle.

bulls head is better though the prices are creeping up

i think they get the bitter straight out of the sump

have you ever tried 'Cheers' beer Marmite?

I'll give that one my vote as worst beer in Thailand (that I've tried anyway).

I've gotta agree that the Londoner and all of the other 'expat-pubs' are boring, stale, and over-priced. Wednesday is happy hour all night though, and is usually crowded, albiet with boring and stale people...

Tokyo Joe's on soi 24 has live jazz, and has much more atmosphere...Washington square also has some good bars too if you want to play pool with the girls and have a laugh..

^No mate.

But they have live jazz too - except the band is thai. Tokyo Joes is a bit further down on the right and they have a yank on drums, japanese on the big-bass, and an aussie on piano/vocals..
