Out in Rangsit no-one can hear you scream.

Well I've finally got my arse in gear and moved out of the centre of BK to the glamorous suburb of Rangsit.

Not sure what the f*** I'm going to do here but at least I'm close to work now - thus I have about 15hrs more time to myself per week.

So , any suggestions for my new found freedom?

    Memock:

It's part of the Northern suburbs of Bangkok (Pathum Thani).

About 5km north of the airport.

    Yes.

I'd hardly call it the countryside here though (Rangsit) - more like Watford or some such place.

Glad to get out of BK though.

So technically you are still in the city though, so wouldnt you do whatever you used to do when you lived closer to the city centre?

Find a good part time job.

I only work 3 days per week (which change every week but are always 3 days in a row) which means I can hit the provinces for long breaks every week.

No way I would wanna work full time in Bangers again

It's like the city but without anything that appeals to westerners.

Well technically I'm in Patum Thani - my students hate me saying it's part of Bangkok for some reason.

I have 15 extra hours to fill up - could do some overtime I guess but well that sucks really.

Probably summit to do with it not being a part of Bangkok? (different province I believe)

One of the few advantages to living there is that you can afford a nice place for under 10,000 baht a month. Then there is Future Park, some cheap seafood restaurants, and ummmm, hmmmm....that's about it!

I lived there about three years ago didn,t enjoy it very much. But went back and had a look a few months ago the place has really started to take off. In my old soi wich use to be dirt road now has a hotel at both ends new shops and bars. I guess I should of brought that block of thai flats for 1,000000 bht I could have made some good money on that.

Some things i'd never do in this country. Ride on amusement park rides is right at the top then there's bungee jump, skydiving and i'm havin' second thoughts about undersea diving if it ain't a farang run outfit with Farang dive masters there's no fuckin' way

Are you heading to Nakorn Naiyok, or on the Vipawidee side? Not to pry just trying to figure out if and when we have a piss up how far away you are. As Chang is out on the way to NN.

Last Saturday I went out for the evening with my wife and a couple of her Thai friends - one of whom is a cop. We took a taxi north to a place called Nawinkorn or maybe Nawaminkorn, anyway, it's a bit north of Rangsit Muang. After wandering around the backstreets for a while, we found a little shack with a dirt parking lot filled with motorscooters.

Inside, the place was a bigger than it looked from outside. There were about 100 people inside and a three-man band that was doing a pretty good job of covering some popular Thai rock. The people there were mostly factory workers, some still in their pajama-like uniforms. Most of the people there were in their twenties, though a few were older. About 60% of them were women, 30% men and 10% looked like THW's new friends.

That place just rocked! It was fun, lively, cheap and the crowd was pretty friendly. I don't know if I could find it again, but there is definitly life in Rangsit.

    On the Viphavidi side.

    Between Future Park and Zeer.
