Worst food at places it's supposed to be good

Both Gullivers - absolute shite with no value for money.

The fish and chips at Molly Malones is also dissapointing and the peas are a disgrace - then again it is on special, probably a freezer clear out. In fact, if you enjoy fish and chips just go without unless you are planning a trip to Hervey Bay Australia or Fraserburgh in Scotland.

The rest of the menu is quite good and so it should be - the fucking price they charge.

Sizzler - you can have a half decent steak but anything under 400 baht is crap.

    Cheers for listening,

Sizzler SUCHS - they went out of business in the states.

For under three hundred baht, the best steak in Thailand when eating out is at Chok Chai steakhouse.

    Absolutely mouth watering

    I'll add my thruppence worth:

The Offshore Chip Shop, Sukhumvit 23, Bangkok: Absolute trash if they haven't already gone out of Bangkok, if you cower in the toilets you won't get smothered in the film of grease that hangs in the air at all times.

The Old Dutch: On the corner of Cowboy / Sukhumvit 23:

"McDonalds serve fast food but here it takes time so don't worry be happy"

Well something like that anyway, which loosely translates into:

"If we feel like it, we'll do your order within twenty minutes or if the two week tourists that come in and flirt with us are better tippers then hard luck"
Other words, crap. Actually not in other words, those are the words as Walter Matthau said in 'The Odd Couple'.

DJ Pat is The Old Dutch the place where they were very busy with tourists once and they didn't wai you, a regular expat customer and friend, so you took offence and refused to go in there again?

Food's not worth it there anyway.

Offshore's been downhill for years so I've heard.

I'll add Bull's Head to this list, ate there a few times, only the potato soup is passable. The roast dinner was a microwaved tasteless mess.

Isn't all food supposed to be good -- at least where it's served?

I've yet to see a sign that proclaims: It sucks really bad, but we have food here

Please explain what you mean by, "at places it's supposed to be good."

Do you mean poor value places?

I quite liked the F&C at the BusStop just a quick nip down from NEP. Haven't been there for about six months though. They also have an open kitchen so you can see the slob frying up your grease blob isn't hacking lungers into the fryer.

I ate at the Royal Cliff 'fine dining' restaurant, the top European one, once in Pattaya and I thought it was overpriced, bland, cheap pretentious shite with mincing fucked up Gays thrown in for free. That was around three years ago though.

When they served me vintage Port in a liqeuer glass (final insult), rather than bother any more with the Rent Boy who posed as manager, I just loudly announced to Mrs that they would have no Tip.

I lied. I made a point of leaving them around 15 bht.

Dubliner should be good given the ridiculous prices they charge - but it's actually very mediocre.

Little Italy near Cowboy is also grim. And I agree with the sentiments about the Offshore too.

And as for Gullivers, not sure why this is mentioned as it's never "supposed to be good" - you know you'll be getting average, unhealthy pub-grub stodge and I can't see how anyone would expect otherwise.

I like the burger patty in the pepper sauce. That's only about 250 Baht.

Where do I start here? Bangkok has so many mediocre and poor Western restaurants it is almost impossible to make a comprehensive list.

Tony Romas - Looks can be deceiving. You think you are going to be treated to great rib and steak in this place but ultimately it disappoints. Very hit or miss. Mostly miss.

Dubliner - Pub fare that tries to be a little bit posh and ends up being a dog's dinner. Posh prices too. Bleh.

Bangkok Pizza - A very poor attempt to bring good pizza to the capital. The dough was like cardboard, the cheese sparse and the toppings had gone A.W.O.L.
Since closed I believe and it's no surprise.

Offshore - I find it impossible to eat here unless blind drunk.

Little Italy - Started off as a promising Italian restaurant that was open until the wee hours and has slowly gone downhill. When they changed the menu to Pizza Hut stylee complete with pictures I knew the death knell was ringing loud and clear.

Sizzler - Fvck me. Do people still eat in this hovel? They were punted out of Australia for numerous health and hygiene violations. Here they have Thais in control...

Took Lae Dee - Situated in Foodland Supermarkets around the city this truck stop styled restaurant's only redeeming feature is that it is fairly reasonable. The food is terrible, both Western dishes and Thai but if you frequent the busy Sukhumvit establishment you will find it packed with West African drug dealers, freelance prostitutes (Thai and Eastern European), drunken Westerners and obnoxious Middle Eastern men lowering the tone.

The Buffalo Steak House in Kata( Phuket ) certainly lives up to its name !!!

Positive it is the final resting place of all those "sick buffalos " up north that didnt pull through the expensive vets treatment paid for by punters down here !

Ah, so it has some advantages then, sounds like an interesting place!
