    Nong Chok

That's how Google Maps spells it. Should be Nongjok.

Anyone know anything about this place? Seems to be quite Muslim. A family friend (Buddhist) is considering moving there to study at the private technology university there. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maha..._of_Technology

Can't your student friend do his own research.
And it's spelt Nonjoke on Saudi school maps.

I worked at the University for a year, about fifteen years ago.

The area is lovely...lots of rice fields, trees...

The uni itself has a middling reputation. Not for high fliers but not a disaster area either.

I went there because I managed to get a 4 day teaching week, which was handy because I was writing my Master's thesis at the time.

Very good canteen, including the best pumpkin with eggs and pork ever.

Then I completed my thesis, and the money wasn't good enough to stay.

Thanks cyrille. I had a look around the other day but didn't learn much. 'Nice tram system and rural setting for the tennis courts' was my only thought about the uni. The town has a lovely park.

I was surprised to read that this is Bangkok's biggest district. I wasn't surprised to read its the least populated. The town is right next to the Chachoensao province border. It felt like being 200 kilometres from anything, and as a look on Google maps satellite view reveals, is totally rural, yet is only 20 kilometres from Minburi and the airport link via surprisingly quiet roads, and has Tesco big C tops and makro and has a dozen or so modern moobahns hidden away. Loads of transport options (vans, free buses, songtaews) for those so inclined. Looks great for cycling and motorbiking too.

The best of both worlds perhaps - an issan feel minutes from a megacity.

^^Driving, it used to take me about 40 minutes to get there from Prakanong via the expressway.

It was a good start to the working day to arrive there from the city. The uni itself is literally set in rice fields.

Our friend will if deciding to study there either get an apartment there or get taxis to and from latkrabang airport link station taking circa 25 mins (non-driver). Wouldn't have been an option in your day.

Sounds like there are vans to minburi and the mall bang kapi.

I dunno if it was so in your day but a look on Google satellite reveals numerous long single lane moobahns threaded through the ricefields. I'd have been tempted myself if I knew about this place a couple of months ago. Fashion Island seems to be the nearest large mall.

Yeah, most of my colleagues used to travel in vans to the mall. In those days many of the vans had Osama bin Laden stickers on the windows...that caused a double take on first viewing.

Personally I was really glad to have a car, and wouldn't have worked there otherwise.

    Shit I miss that canteen.

The Hash has run out there a number of times. Pleasant enough but nothing to write home about.

Apparently the guy who set up the technology uni also designed Thailand's taxi meter. Little know fact (or not).
