Good Hotels near Khao San Road

I'll be visiting BKK for a few days, and want to visit the Grand Palace, and the rest of the temples in that area. Anyone recommend a nice place to stay. I'm not too fond of Khao San road, any other rec's?

I don't want to pay a fortune, but definitely willing to pay for more than just a guesthouse on Khao San.

    Thanks

When I lived in the Pin Klao area I stayed in a hotel facing Central shopping complex near the southern bus terminal. Sorry I can't remember the name of it but one night was around 1000BHT including breakfast.

You may ask why I stopped in a hotel if I lived in the area. After a night frequenting the Kao San bars I got back to my condo & dropped my keys which went down the lift shaft...that hotel saved me that night.

^I didn't like the sawadee chain I stayed at once on Khao San road. Way to small a room.

I'm looking for something around 1000baht/night.

    Thanks for suggestions

Try Nana Inn or Kao San Palace, just from memory.
    There are lots more.

I stay at the New Siam II quite a lot it's clean and has a pool. They just opened a new one opposite called New Siam Riverside. Views of the river from some rooms a bit more expensive but there is a discount while they get it up and running. Stayed there once and it was quite nice. Rooms at the New Siams seem to range from about 600 to 1400 but are often discounted at this time of year. It's seems popular with Western women which is why I stay there .....

I vaguely remember the New Siam G.H. from years ago.
One of the better places in the area, but rather stuck-up about bringing back hookers, noisy drinking sessions and all that.

I danno - some people may prefer a place for the same reasons others don't like it.

Try Buddy Lodge, right on KSR. Very nice rooms and a nice pool.

Not totally in the area of KS road, but a pretty centrally located hotel for most of the city, is Bangkok Suites. They have an internet site which has the lowest rates available as they say they don't use brokers. A pretty new hotel, with TV, refrig, bathtub, phone, etc, is 750 a night, and that includes breakfast for two, a free internet hour per day, and taxes. Or you get free wi-fi from your room if you bring a laptop.

    Sounds good. for BKK.
The cheapest I've ever seen is Shanti about 1 km north of KSR.
Has dorm rooms for 100 b (did 2 years ago anyway)
