The amount of rubbish collected in Bangkok increased to nearly 10,000 tonnes a day last year, according to City Hall's environment department.
Department deputy director Somchai Chatsakulpen said waste collected between Oct 1, 2012, and Sept 30 last year, weighed about 120,000 tonnes.
Between Oct 1, 2011, and Sept 30, 2012, about 117,000 tonnes of garbage was collected.
Mr Somchai said the Japan Bank for International Cooperation has estimated that rubbish collection for this year will increase to more than 13,000 tonnes per day.
The department will devise plans to try to reduce the amount of garbage in the capital, Mr Somchai said.
