I think somebody should send a pigeon to the Thai channels, they seem unconcerned.

A fire broke out at Daidomon restaurant on the seventh floor of Mah Boonklong shopping mall Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the fire was caused by short circuit at about 1:30 pm and fire fighters took about 20 minutes to control the blaze

However, the mall was filled with smoke and officials had to evacuate shoppers pending the clearing of the smokes.

The traffic in the area was congested because of the deployment of fire engines there.

    Fire closes Mahboonkrong mall

    Fire closes Mahboonkrong mall

    By BangkokPost.com, TNA
MBK Center, a popular shopping complex next to Siam Square in the Bangkok city centre, closed Saturday afternoon for a cleanup after a successful public evacuation caused by a fire in a 7th floor restaurant.
The blaze apparently occurred in a Japanese restaurant on the seventh floor of the eight-storey, 2000-shop complex, adjoining Tokyu Department Store and the Pathumwan Princess Hotel, neither of which were affected by the fire.

Police initially believed the fire resulted from an electrical short circuit.

Shoppers as well as vendors were ordered to exit the building after the blaze was extinguished, but free-standing exhaust fans were installed to blow out smoke from the crowded premises as the complex has no windows for ventilation purposes, police said.

Cleaners were seen sweeping the seventh floor after firefighters contained the blaze.

No casualties were reported in the accident.

MBK is a popular shopping paradise among Thais and international tourists, especially known for mobile telephones and related electronics.

a good mate of mine is a fire chief engineer or smething or other, years ago he told me he would never shop in MBK, as it is a complete death trap fire wise....

fortunate that this fire was not prophetic...

^ yeah a lot of nice freelancers, a good place, much better than Tony's

I took a bunch of small time local Thai TV stars/models there once. They were in shock. They have been in Pattaya before but never in walking street or in the discos there. They were not sure if they were actually in Thailand and they couldn't figure out who were all those people with farangs. I think they were taking the piss at me.
