    New Airport to Old Airport

Back in 19769-1970 I was stationed at Don Muang Air Force base for one year..Man those were the days.If you only knew what we payed back then for fun..I will be flying into the new airport and was wondering how far is it to the old (Don Muang)..This will be my 1st trip back.My plan is to only spend a few hours by Don Muang .Just to see what remains would really be a thrill for me. My final destination is Chiang Mai.Spending time in Bangkok it self is not a priority..Im sure taking a taxi would be the way to go.So I guess im looking for an approximate price and how long it would take to get to Don Maung..Thanks for you suggestions in advance..

    You won't recognise Bangkok.
The 2 airports are outside almost at opposite sides of Bkk, taxi is the way to go.
Patpong and Soi Cowboy are still there, prolly nothing like in 1970 either.

Flying would be better, unless you take a week or two to get to Chiang Mai, then I would hire a car.

I reckon you are on a hiding for nothing.

The place will have changed beyond any recognition.
You have some good memories of Don Muang and the good old days.
Live with your memories and don't spoil them with a visit today.

Go to Google Earth and insert the following as a way point

    13deg. 54' 37.43" N

    100deg. 36' 25.36" E

zoom all the way in, you'll be able to see 'our' golf course nicely.

You ain't going to believe ....

    BTW were you 1035th?

Consider the time you will actually come through the airport door, not the scheduled landing, and put aside a couple of hours minimum for check-in and stuff, and you'll be on a tight schedule.

There is nothing of interest at Don Muang. I was there in 1978 and you can't recognize anything now.
You will likely get caught in the horrendous traffic and miss your flight to CM.

Bangkok is worthy of a 3-4 day visit though. Soi Cowboy is great and I love riding the skytrain and river taxis.

you didn't say when you were coming and I wonder if you're aware that they are reopening the old airport on March 25th for all domestic flights and some of the budget airlines...

exceptions with TG are Chiang Mai, Phuket & Khon Khen...

but if you're booked with Nok Air they will fly from DM...

so if you're flying with Nok Air you will be leaving from DM anyway...thus you'll get to see 'the old home town' on your way up and on your way back...

I jhave flights Landing in DM on Nokair and thyen leaving from Sv airport we have 4 hours between and Nokair reckon that will be fine.
However they are not offering any tyransport between the 2 airports and told us to just get a taxi.
I am very worried that we will miss our return flight.
    Ho Hum.

    Dubaidave.
FYI I only happened to check the Nokair website and found they had changed to DM. They would not have told me otherwise.
