Old Chao Phraya Hotel

In 1975 I was stationed at the Chao Phraya hotel while in the US military. Now in Bangkok for a visit I can't seem to locate it. I have tried to Google it and it keeps giving me Chao Phraya Park hotel. does anyone know if the hotel still exists or if it was torn down? It was not a new hotel in 1975 so it may have been retired and replaced by another hotel. If so, what hotel replaced it?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated as I would really like to revisit my old stomping grounds before returning home to the states.

I have never heard of it and started coming here in 78. By the name it would seem to have been on the river? More details as to where its location was?

Now i am confused as the first hotel I stayed at was the Liberty. The Chao Phraya massage joint is no where near Sapan Kwai. The Liberty is was on soi Pradipat off of Phayonyothin. To the right as you go into BKK Right at Saphan Kwain BTS. Back then their was no Vipawidee highway, only Phayonyothin Rd. But thats a whole different story.

Well, I think I located it. At least where it used to be. The Chao Phraya Hotel was where the US Navy had its residences, at least we did. Apparently, sometime after 1975, the hotel was torn down. The Siam City Hotel (Sukosol) now stands in its place. The location is Sri Ayutthaya Road and Phaya Thai. will feel a little strange going over there this weekend and seeing a whole different landscape. Life goes on, does it not?

hell, that area (around Siam City Hotel) has changed quite a bit since I stayed there in the late 1990's (our office building was right next door)...I went back in 2008 and with the new King Power complex and a couple of new malls I didnt know where I was (walking from Century Park hotel)

According to Google the Siam City Hotel was built in 1990. So the Chao Phraya Hotel was torn down then. I know that the expressway wasn't there in 1975. Just that changes the landscape quite a bit.
