After midnight: Airport to BKK buses, Taxi, or rail?

What is the best way to get into Bangkok after midnight from Suvarnabhumi? I will arrive at 11:30 international so I probably won't make the rail to PhayaThai. I think that ends a bit after midnight. Do they have airport buses that go into the city after midnight? If I have to take a taxi and I am going to Saphan Kwai, how much should I expect to pay for that?

Thanks for any responses. I looked for info but for some reason I wasn't able to come up with anything recent here or on the net. Guess I am not that good at searching.

A taxi ride (regular city taxi, not the AOT cars) from the airport to the middle of Bangkok only costs about 350 Baht or about $12 usd, why would you want to waste time looking for a bus? The taxis are very cheap here and easy to get in the airport.

I'll probably go with the taxi. The reason I asked is I remember a special airport bus which ran three different routes in Bangkok, I think it ran express to the hotels areas of Sukumvit, Silom, and Kaosan. I wasn't sure if that was still going.

    Thanks for all the info.

If you go to the top floor to get your taxi, and jump into a taxi there, thus skipping the 50 baht fee and queue downstairs, whatever you do ignore anyone approaching you saying taxi, you will be ripped off. Instead pick a Taxi yourself and make sure you tell them "Meter"

I'll check out the top floor if that's possible. Sounds like the best place to pick one up.

They are happy to get a fare back to town, so the meter won't be a problem. Last year I got one there late and went to Sukhumvit soi 1 and it was 180 baht and fast, even though he didn't take the expressways.

Only 50 baht more to get the number of the cab recorded on Level 1 why would you be bothered or take a risk for 50 baht to get one upstairs. All it costs is the Toll of 70 baht, and the 50 baht added to the meter to go to Sukhimvit.

    Kwang is right.

Go down to level one, pay the Bt50 surcharge and get a meter taxi. You'll get the form so if he tries to rip you off, fill it in and post it off.

One fucked me on the tolls once, I was too tired to argue, posted the form off and got a letter back from them saying they'd hauled him in, he'd admitted the offence and was fined Bt1,000.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

No I am saying go to level 4, pick a taxi that you see someone jump out of and tell him meter, he will be chuffed to bits to land a fare back to Bangkok and you wont get stitched up.

The only way you will get done on Level 4 is if you are approached by a go between who will jump in the taxi with you and the driver and get dropped off round the corner.

Just look for someone gettin out of a Taxi and you wont go wrong

Don't listen to Aussie Tigger, he's always on the golf range and a bit naive.

Albert is your man, keep that 120 baht in your pocket, will pay for 3 big bottles of Leo nearly

If you keep your bags on back seat there is no chance of locked in trunk until tipped sam ,or only inLOS the midget in the boot who rifles your stuff while on the freeway ,oh yeah I'm not making it up.Tolls are around 30=40 to Sapahn Kwai which usually cost me 240 baht at night

I have got a taxi from Top floor it was ok, like you say it saves you a bit of money, I was with 3 others though. If I was on my own I would pay the extra and have it all recorded, its hardly going to break the bank and the taxis are so cheap compared to the UK.

^ The 50 Baht is worth the extra expense as insurance, any driver that tries to avoid that system has already shown himself to be dodgy.

They're not avoiding it. They have just dropped somebody off at departures, and are about to pull away and head back into Bangkok. I've never had a problem, like what was said before they're happy to get a fare back into town and have never refused to turn the meter on.
I've also seen long lines at the 50 baht one.
