Bangkok Prepares To Become Asean Capital
BANGKOK, June 28 (Bernama) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is developing strategies to turn Bangkok into the capital of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) after the ASEAN Community (AC) is formed by 2015.
Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paripatra said BMA welcomes suggestions from all sectors in society to help tailor the strategies, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.
The City Authority is also joining forces with Thammasat University's ASEAN Studies Centre and other relevant units to help develop the strategies based on the ASEAN Community's three pillars of politics and security, socio-culture and economy.
The BMA's strategies are expected to be completed by August this year.
