On nutters, Soi, 22,and yes Titanic and the Q bar some fond memories so wasted had to cab home to soi 13 too gone to duck under the ambassador, there was also an Ozzie place past the Bierkeller and a few rooftop places in the day. I guess new gererations will enjoy their selection and we all have fond memories from our will /glory days.

The great thing about BKK in 1990s early 2000s was ordinary Thais studens worketr could afford most of my haunts today its hisos flashpackas and suits, but not here in the boonies with the yokels I've found my niche in a village oddly similar development tp my youth , tho mobiles and speaker vans try to outdo the dogs and monks for noise.

I still like Paharat Yaowarat and Samsen away form the tourists to visit certainly not to live and Air Quality yuk !!

My love for this place will never die- the end or middle of some great nights out in the Big Mango. The nearby noodle shop sells much more than just noodles

It is a generation thing though as guys back then you'd talk to say was a different world in early 90s and80s etc. Which no doubt it was but you have to move on but old farts seldom want to. Hence I'd never live in Bangkok again as was 26-29 when I lived there and as an old fart now at 44 id never have what I had before. Hope this drunken post makes sense!!!

it's funnly how all those shitty little SE Asian countries are transforming fast and forgetting their past in the process,

it's like they want to forget it all, no trace of the past in monuments or landmarks

Thailand is really a different country from what it was 15 years ago, actually it's even a completely different country from what it was 5 years ago !!!

there is no stable social continuity, so no wonder the country is fucked

I lived and worked in Washington square. Nearly 25 years ago now. I liked it around there in those days. All gone now. Bourbon st is in Soi Ekamai but missing the atmosphere of the old place. As DF says, very different now. Life moves on.

Looking from 19th floor of Ratchada Pavilion, 2004 which at the times was the tallest in the area.

Note the kack of tall new condos...I wish I could take pics from the same spot now..

Looking left, Ratchada. New MRT Lat Phrao park & ride being finished off

Looking right along Ratchada, can see The Supreme Court, Supalai, SCB Park and elephant building

One thing I have noticed about being back, boozers in England often have little character when compared to a hole in the wall/ dive bar in SE Asia. Many a happy and boozy night spent eating and grazing on good Thai food on those boats near Khlong 1 in Rangsit. Miss that stuff!

Trouble with pubs in England these days is most are chain pubs and basically all the same so as you say no character, and so many have closed. Still the odd gem about but mainly to be found in villages.
