My wife just told me there was a bomb blast around Sukhumvit Soi 71.

Apparently a few middle eastern men were approached by police and they threw the bag they were carrying back into a taxi which then exploded.

Anyone hear about this event?

Three injured in explosion at Sukhumvit 71
February 14, 2012

Three foreigners were injured in an explosion on Soi Sukhumvit 71 Tuesday afternoon.

The explosion occurred at 2 pm in front of the Kasem Pitthaya School.

One of the foreigners lost his legs.

The Bangkok Post story says that someone threw the bomb and then fled, so it's not clear if the legless guy is one of the bomber's buddies or not.

You can usually safely bet The Bangkok Post has it wrong, especially in a breaking news situation.

Pol Lt Col Witthaya Poonsin, deputy commander of Klong Tan traffic police, said the explosion damaged a taxi.
Witthaya said, a foreigner tried to throw a bomb at police but it slipped out of his hand and exploded. The blast cut both of his legs and he was rushed to the Chulalongkorn Hospital.

Television is reporting bombs in three seperate locations.

In related news , all mods on Thai visa have had their leave canceled and are ordered to stand by their PC's and await further instruction.
