    AUS Days

The end of an era - leaving Thailand

After almost 12 years of living in Thailand, I have decided to call it a day and move on. From Nov. '07 onwards, by new home will be in Sydney, Australia. Those of you who know me will know how difficult a decision this has been. There are still a number of processes that need to be completed in order for this to come off. My sponsorship needs to be approved and I need to pass a medical examination. The point of this thread is to try and keep a journal of the process. I will try and be a honest as I can.

You could do much worse William, Sydneys a great place, bit expensive for me now, when I lived there the traffic got on my tits but plenty to do and good weather.

All the best- I had eleven good years living in Sydney, love the place.
As a lawyer, I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy some of the good life there- it ain't a cheap city.
Best of luck with the red tape- Australia is good at that, but you'll get there. I can think of worse options than Oz residency.

Bloody hell mate (stow that phrase for future reference), I can appreciate that must've been a hard decision to make. Australia is a great place. Pity it's full of Australians though.

Anyways best of luck with it all...

... so, there will be a job vacancy at your firm then?

I'd focking sue you for that barely disguised bit of libel but you can count your lucky stars that no, I don't know any good lawyers.

Good luck in Steak n' Kidney, William. If you ever get up to Brisbane, look us up and we'll show you the sights. A steak at the Brekky Creek would definitely be in order. Cheers, Mate.

It aint the land of smiles i can tell you. Lived there for 40 years.
Wish you well will miss your informative posts William
And the best game is spot the Aussie.
The rents and weekly shopping will shock you. Its 15 years behind yank culture.
Any way as a lawyer you will be gainfully employed.
P.s. The traffic is less than bangkok but at a safer level.

It's a big change! Once you absorb all the rules, it gets easier. Give it a year.
