Any pics William?
lazy git is prolly still drinkin in the pub boring the ass offa some aussie blokes about how good it was back in bangkok....
From what he's told me, Sydney men are all pussies who never go to the pub, so he's probably sitting there getting sloshed boring the bar-staff to death about how good it was in Bangkok.Originally Posted by kingwilly
actually, was out and about and got a few photos. Will try and upload them tonight.
I think they are avoiding him, probably in the pub next door...Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
This past weekend was the nicest we have had here in Sydney this year to-date. It also happened to be the weekend that the 2 Queens were in town.
So I took the chance to see them. But I thought that, on its own, might be a little boring, so I took a walk-about in as well. The following is how it went
So the first thing I thought I would do is walk you through Kirribilli, where I live
now this is called "Milsons Point" train station, because Aussies don't know anything about subways - bar the sandwich (which has even made it here!). But, on a usual day, this is where I would go to get the train to go to work.
outside of Milsons point is where you find the first row of place to buy things [like your shopping needs]
and the "Supermarket" even sells flowers...
now this place really interested me. I was looking for a place to put my old man up in (as I only have a one bedroom). So, I check-out the nearest "hotel". Apparently this is not a hotel at all, it's a pub - no rooms for hire. Due to some strange laws in Sydney during the 60s or thereabouts, only hotels could sell booze.
This ios one of my favs - Kirribilli meats is my local butcher, and he sells some damn good stuff
On certain weekends (and bugger me if I could tell you when), we have our "market". Let me tell you, Sydneysiders love their markets and they are full of crap! Reminds me of the stuff you could buy down East Street Market!
This lovely building is our Library (with it's 24/7 internet cafe)
and here in Kirribilli we have food for all
2 fish & chip shops ^ the one in this pic is the better of them. 2 Pizza places. Again, I like the one in this pic.
Your local "bottle" store. But "Stir Crazy" is one of 4 - yes 4 - Thai restaurants
and then you have one of the most popular cafes I've seen. The food is OK, but the two Thais girls servicing are .... wonderful!
If that were not enough, we have two Indians and a Malaya place to eat.
Now this one is interesting, as it's my bus stop...
... and here we have the most controversial issue in Kirribilli
A dunny. Now why would that get people so excited? The answer is - that's it. There are no more. On New Year's Eve or Aussie Day, when you can get upwards of several thousands, this is what you get - so bring a bottle boys.
and this is our local hypermarket - but don't expect to shop there for more than, well, nothing - it's crap!
Before we leave Kirribilli, right next to the Bridge steps, you come across one of the oldest established churches in Australia
but pushing on, we come to the
which are busy
and then we start to walk the bridge
[I don't know if you can read this, but it is the commemorative plaque]
the views...
so we come to the end of our bridge walk
graffiti and all!
and move on to the Rocks. Now, this was my fist real walk around the Rocks, and I love the place!
they even had a sight I had not seen for the best part of 30 years... A fucking Ice Cream Van!
But the thing about the Rocks is that it really is a maze of superb place to eat
now I'll say something here that is a little controversial. Like Souther Africa, Australia doesn't have much history, so they let you know it when you see it
This is a monument to the Settler, the Convict and the Marine. And I recall a walk the dales in the UK and not even knowing I had been through the Bronte house. But in the Commonwealth we like to tell you - and being of that bred I have no problems with it.
but the Rocks did remind me of East London on a good summer day
and this is the one my nephew would have loved

Then we have Queen Vic
good work mate ! some great pics.
In trying to keep the TD lot happy, we push on..
through the Gardens and [I think] the Domain (with CBD views)
looking back at where I had walked from
one of my favourites, the taxi
and some of the "better off"
and finally I get to see the QE2
now I was somewhat pissed off with the QE2 views, because this loot kept getting in my face every time I wanted to take a pic
and was told I could only take photos from one side of "her"
moving on, I went to take a look at the famous Mrs Macquarie's Chair
and the little boy next to me said "she must have had a fat arse!"
and I took in lunch
and into the CBD we go
I love Sydney because it does have this old/new match
and this building is whre I lost a fortune the last three months
but we have sights
Wynard (sp?) and it's time to get back for the farewell
and it was time to say "good bye to the Queen Vic"
now, you have to see this picture, because you note the lack of tug boats as it leave the quay
I understand that's because it has "side propellers" - but wait a sec and see the QE2
In the meantime, bustard helis - I reckon MM hired them
but here in Sydney we are saying "good bye" and "hello"
and so the QE2 takes the place of the Queen Vic...
but do you notice the use of the tug boat?
now, the guys tell me that's because The QE2 doesn't have side propellers...
...which all the new ones do
and so tonight, we said "good bye" to a long, good friend here in Sydney
29 and out..
..those in the "cheap seats"
and those in the not so cheap seats

excellent stuff William...thanks for thinking of those of us still suffering here in Bkk...
nostalgic tour for which I thank you...
The hot dog and coke looks the delish. Glad to see you worked out how to make the most of that flashy camera of yours too old chap .
BTW, with all them Thai restaurants I doubt there'd be too much to dwell on re the good ol' days in Bangkok .

seeing as it is Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras time in Sydney, I'm sure there's more than 2 queens in town !!!Originally Posted by William
William, dear boy, you are killing me.
You don't want to know what i know about this place-
This is the HMAS Supply I believe. Once I was the SO.
And this was pretty much the view from my living room ( Upper Pitt St, Kirribilli)
I am swamped in nostalgia, but Sydney is the bollocks. Kissed by Deity- what a lucky city. Make the best of it. The Sydneysiders are a kinda hard bunch (not really) and don't realise how lucky they are.
It was a privilege to live there, for all of those twelve years.
This morning was power boat racing. Sub-size the pictures don't look so good, but here we go
