The priest (who rode the talking white horse) was played by a woman you know.

    Nonsense, that was Tripitaka...

The Tripitaka (Tipitaka in Pali) is the earliest collection of Buddhist teachings and the only text recognized as canonical by Theravada Buddhists. Many commentaries have been added over the centuries, however. Tripitaka means "three baskets," from the way in which it was originally recorded: the text was written on long, narrow leaves, which were sewn at the edges then grouped into bunches and stored in baskets. {1} The collection is also referred to as the Pali Canon, after the language in which it was first written. It is a vast collection of writings, comprising up to 50 volumes costing $2000 in some modern sets.

Masako Natsume (夏目 雅子 Natsume Masako?, December 17, 1957 - September 11, 1985) (family name: Nishiyama) was a Japanese model and actress from Tokyo. Widely popular in Japan she gained worldwide recognition for her portrayal as Tripitaka in the TV series Monkey which is now considered a cult classic.

I'd run home to see Monkey but like Fast Eddy said, The Water Margin was much better.

Are you going to admit now that the priest was played by a woman or not?

Indeed, you were right all along; but we all knew that it was a woman too.

This reminds me of hunger. I would be watching this waiting for my mum to serve dinner. Would love to watch under the influence of narcotics.

Teddy, the whole point was that it was like being on acid without taking any acid; even better when you're 10 and don't know what acid is...

^^All good. The series I remember as a kid though was "The Singing Ringing Tree" for utter surreal weirdness. There were a few of these European imports on UK kid's telly back in the day.
They always seemed to have midgets in them as well, for some reason.
