FFS. Why has this thread turned into listing every female singer in existence?

I believe the subject is: The greatest female lead singer of all time ?

Surprised no one has mentioned Diana Ross yet? She was a bit special back in the day, (and over a long and amazingly successful career).

Is there a distinction to be made between females who front bands as lead singers and female solo artists? Kinda different IMO. Enjoying the thread regardless.

The greatest female singer was Ella Fitzgerald, full stop. She needed no showmanship. Her voice alone was the show. She was "lead" singer for many bands as well. Really big bands ya know.

Edith Piaf - Non, je ne regrette rien with Charles Dumont.

"Non, je ne regrette rien" ("No, I regret nothing") is a French song written in 1956 which is best known through the recording made by French singer, Édith Piaf, on 10 November 1960. It was composed by Charles Dumont and its lyrics, describing the singer's defiant attitude toward the past, were written by Michel Vaucaire.

One of the few female artists albums I actually purchased during the 70's.

Again it was reported she was a nymho so maybe that was the attraction.

I was thinking of Edith Piaf at the beginning of this thread but figured nobody would know who she was.

    How old are you Mid?

She featured amongst the music in Woody Allen's "Match Point"
