Among the 15 best guitar players in the world.

This young Dane Steffen Schackinger has just been named as one of the 15 best guitar-players in the world, how else they find that ranking, but I'm very impressed with his mastery of the guitar-

If you dont want to watch his technique but just want the action go 3min 15 sec in this vid.

And the next one here the action really starts about 1 min 30 sec.

This one it's worth just taking in the whole thing, really some artistry.

Next one duel guitar and fiddle.

Very nice to see up and coming musicians that can actually play an instrument, and is more than just marketing tricks from some record label. Good luck to the lad.

    He can certainly play alright.

What I never understand, is how does an artist make into the top 10/20. Surely its just a matter of taste.

In this case it is a site called "guitar on the edge"

Home of Guitar On The Edge

That writes about the best guitar players in the world, but I agree with you, different strokes for different folks.

Good site. I will look closer when I have more time.

DJANGO REINHARDT #60 I would have thought he would feature higher than that. Like you say, different strokes and all that.

I thought he was a damn good player too, and the fact that he was blind, made him even more interesting.

    technically pretty elevator music

magazine could only identify 79 guitarists, if I nominate myself will my one vote make me 80th?

    Worthless.

Clapton, Alvin Lee, Jeff Healy, Beck, Winter amongst quite a few others for me are top notch, this is all about personal taste and it is in reality impossible to put a ranking on, still for me there is no doubt that the young guy in the OP has a bright future and is really very good.

It's all to do with taste.

Claptons well up there for for me. Even named my daughter after him (Not Eric by the way!). To be honest it is not purely on his guitar, but lyrics aswell.
Where is Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead? VERY underrated.

What about bass. Does that count?
You may laugh, but Mark (thunder-thumbs) King is a master.

All respect, but the poll could be about the best 15 movies of all time and we would all have a different opinion.

Good choice for #1 LT. Passed my thoughts. Didn't really think of the R.H.C.P's.
As I said the list goes on and on...
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Shoot me down as you will but I thought the op list was about mastery of guitar technique, not performance skills, song writing, singing etc etc.

But hey, wtf do I know.

And Dave Gilmour. Not many manufacturers of guitars say that the guitar was built for this man to play.

^ Agree there. That's why I pointed out I was a bit biased with Clapton.

Angus Young was one of the few great guitarists to play exclusively Gibson guitars. Simply the best.

Those Feliciano vid's made me think back to the time I lived in Spain, we would hit the small local bars and most often there would be Flamenco performers, it is probably the hardest to play on a guitar and the skill level even on those bar performers where fantastic, we would get drunk on brandy or vino smoking Monte Cristo's and be having a jolly good time.

Stupid foreign tourists starting clapping to the music would make them stop and complain, that clapping looks easy but is in reality very difficult and has to be very precise
