I am currently reading an English translation of "Four Reigns" by Kukrit Pramoj.
Very interesting.
About the life of Phloi and her family, inside and out of the palace walls. King Rama V through to King Rama VIII.

...which was a really good read, and now I am mostly reading the follow up to it...


...which is written 25-30 odd years after his first solo around the world motorcycle journey, in 2002. The author retraces his route and it's interesting to read him describe the changes in the people, politics, development, tourism etc.
Gives me itchy feet!

Oh, and he started this trip at age 69 and did it unsupported by an entourage, unlike the big girls blouses Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman.

Just finished 'The Killer Angels' by Michael Shaara. One of a great series on the Civil War (American). It was made into a movie, Gettysburg, which has some good actors in it. I'm getting ready to watch that today.

Are you watching the 1993 movie Davis ?

I'm currently reading "Coke Machine: the dirty truth behind the worlds favorite soft drink".

It's both a history of, and 'expose' on Coke. Pretty interesting, although in recent times most of the dirt clings to the various CC bottling subsidiaries rather than the CC Corporation. Downloaded it via Torrent, it's an easy read.

You probably already know this, but.... 'Fog on the Tyne' is the name of a song by a Geordie group called Lindisfarne. Have a listen to the song on YouTube, not a bad song.

which was at the time of release supposed to be 'funny'
half way through it now and frankly
find it a bit of a bore.
and about to give up on it.

Funny? Well, funny as in "ha ha" no. "Funny" as in "strange", maybe. Its a satirical work.

it still is funny

sort of black humour though

not boring at all

I love his books and can reread them again and again

Just finished 'Gods and Generals', Jeff Shaara's final volume on the US Civil War, which follows 'The Killer Angels" on which I reported above. Now moving on to 'No Less Than Victory', Jeff Shaara's third and final volume in his WWII trilogy. Then, on to the two final Shaara books on the US Revolution. That will conclude everything written to date by Jeff and his father, both fabulous military historians with the gift of bring history alive.
