The Four Tops - I do enjoy. Most Afro-American music fits the bill.
The period mentioned is unique in music history.

I did not see the Beatles - USD3.50
    Stones & Roy Orbison - USD1.80
    The Animals - USD1.50

I make a distinction regarding John Lennon & the Beatles. To me the Beatles were manufactured as were most.

When you start a thread like this you should nominate musical categories.

Middle of the road soft rock here is my contribution

    1. Paul Simon
    2. James Taylor
    3. Carol King
    4. Cat Stevens
    5. Brian Wilson (Beach Boys)

All of the above legends influenced most other bands with their melodies and harmonies during that period.

    Good point.
When composing a thread such as this, it is difficult to cover all the bases.

Yeah, I understand. Just ask all those that were influenced by Chuck Berry.

(Sadly Jimi and John can no longer reply.)

Start with Maybelline (1955) , Roll Over Beethoven (1956) and Rock 'n Roll Music(1957)...and his geee-tar licks are legendary.
