Interesting and worth a watch:
can't be arsed to watch, what does it come up with?
Also, an usual full documentary dedicated towards the classic film.
Title something along the line of: The Making of Apocalypse Now [????]....or something like that.
Easy enough to find in full on Youtube.
Blackheart, you do not need to post everything you find entertaining or interesting on Teakdoor. It is a sure bet that anything that you find fascinating will surely bore the shit out of everyone else.
It was a decent film, but I didn't really ever figure out why the US government would have cared so much about Kurtz. With all the other stuff going on out there at the time, sorting him out didn't really seem that high priority - especially when the jungle or natives would probably have taken care of him anyway.
I'd read 'The Heart of Darkness' long before I'd seen 'Apocalypse Now'. Obviously the two are closely related but somehow Marlow's journey is both more believable and therefore disturbing than that of Willard in the film.
As I say, it's a decent film - I have a copy of it at home, but if it was not for Conrad's book it'd just be another war movie.
is it worth a read still ?Originally Posted by Roobarb

"Heart of Darkness" is based almost 100 years earlier, and in Africa, not Asia. That said, it's a decent book.
Have to agree with Humbert in post 4. Blackheart is a pointless pontificant much better suited to the banality of facebook.

I'm watching the original version now on my computer (probably for the 7th or 8th time).
I look forward to more discussion tomorrow.
What's weird about Apocalypse Now is that it's not about Vietnam, nor the Vietnam conflict.
Vietnam was the setting for characters and story (obviously) - but that was it.
I have not read Heart of Darkness. I am tempted. It's only 78 pages so perhaps I'll give it a whirl.
Davis, you're missing my point.
As you know, the film is based on "Heart of Darkness" based in the Congo in Africa.
Coppala changed the setting, altered characters, and changed the mold to appeal to audiences.
Released in 1979. Good for selling tickets.
The river is a metaphor. The 3 stops along the river. The bureaucracy, hipocrysy, the question g.
Same tbemes, just a particular setting.
And if you play the Beatles records backwards, you find out who killed Kennedy.
I wholeheartedly admit it. Whatever your point may have been, I certainly missed it.
