I found this one very moving when I was younger, sadly the war in Palestine continued despite the evocative and heart-rending sentiments expressed in this song.

The Arabs, historically, have always loved A. Biggun.
It's not too difficult to picture a young Lawrence (dressed suitably) disclaiming the virtues of fighting whilst advocating biffing the natives clandestinely.

    Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello.

Arthur McBride recorded both by Planxty and Paul Brady, an anti-conscription song from 19th century Donegal. Paul Brady's solo version is the superior one in my book, which he played on open stringed guitar. Probably the biggest folk hit of the 1970's Ireland.

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag
Ooo, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
Ooo, they point the cannon at you, Lord

    It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, y'all
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no

    Yeah, yeah
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More! More! More!", y'all

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, one
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no, no, no
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

It's a rant against the draft and rich kids getting a free pass.
