    Bill Maher on Charlie Hebdo

Quite an interesting show which addresses quite a few topics on TD .
Liberals telling the way it is .
Jokes about subjects that some posters on TD have said are taboo .
Jokes on mainstream TV about subjects that are subosidly unmentionable, according to Ghost of moorg

Not sure whether it was him who said it, but a person who was being interviewed said that he was a liberal

He says himself at 1.53 "I'm a proud liberal". Why do yanks see everything in such black and white terms?
A liberal must believe this, this, and this.
A Conservative, this, this, and this.
Do people think liberals support muslim terrorists or something?

I like Bill Maher, and often download his 'Real Time' show

However, he plays to his own audience - people who really, really like Bill Maher.

US Republicans don't listen to his satire - Islamic Extremists certainly don't.

So.....who's laughing at the gags Bill? Answer: ....Just folk who already dig you.

You're funny, but that doesn't mean you change the perceptions and behaviour of people who think differently and have pre-existing biases. Not one iota.

Moreover, why do folks find it necessary to find comfort in highly fabricated and false political and philosophical identities/labels??

Because one might have this belief and these thoughts towards anything doesn't quality to be associated with false and manufactured identities, in which Mr. Maher stumbles into - like most.

One thing that caught my attention from the interview was when the was critical of Saudi for beheading people in public in the city square .
The U.S. executes a lot more people than Saudi does . And is thee really so much difference between beheading someone in public and injecting then with chemicals to kill them in private

Bill might be unconsciously culturally-centric hypocritical, as are his peers.

Here's Bill Maher weighing in on the cartoon contest that was held in TX recently:

Bill Maher On ‘Draw Muhammed’ Contest: “This Is America. Do We Not Have The Right To Draw What We Want?”

The big subject of Bill Maher’s “Real Time” show Friday night was no surprise: the thwarted attack by Islamic extremists outside a draw Muhammad contest in Garland, Texas, last Sunday.

Maher — an outspoken critic of Islam, particularly its radical element — wasted little time defending the right of Pamela Geller to promote the contest even though he called her “kind of a loon.”

“It obviously was a provocation,” Maher said to his panel. “But this is America. Do we not have the right to draw whatever we want?” The audience took a few seconds to warm up to the host’s statement before applause was heard.

Maher then critiqued the opinion that those who provoke Muslims are ultimately to blame for their violence: “This assumes that we just have to accept that Muslims are unable to control themselves the way we would ask everyone else in the world,” Maher said. “To me that’s bigotry. That’s the soft bigotry of low expectations.”

This poster is not usually a fan of Maher although on this subject, he's spot-on.

Free speech, no matter how distasteful, is protected under the first amendment. We prosecute and penalize those that are provoked to take criminal actions inspired by those exercising freedom of speech but not the speakers.
