What is the best site for music downloads?

I used to keep all my music downloads on an old laptop and never got around to transferring them. GF has been using the old laptop and doing some spring cleaning so I can't find my music or my socks.

What site do you use for music downloads?
My stuff was popular music from the 50s to the 90s
Heart of Gold and a Knob of butter.

I get virtually everything I want from TPB. New music appears there within days if not hours of being released, and, in moments of nostalgia, anything I've wanted from decades ago has never been a problem to find.

I was using TPB to try and download some Paul Simon albums. The listing said plenty of seeds but its been 'connecting to peers' for over an hour with the seeds column showing 0.000
Same for some Beach Boys stuff.
Checked for updates on Utorrent and nothing there.

    which torrent won't work ?
maybe it's a problem at your end

Paul Simon - The Essential Paul Simon (2CD) [2007] FLAC (download torrent) - TPB[2007]__FLAC

    is working .
it's high quality in flac ,so you'll need free foobar 2000 or similar to play them

Out of interest, I just downloaded this:
Paul Simon The Ultimate Best Of 2013 Remastered (download torrent) - TPB

Took approximately 4 minutes (I use uTorrent).

Yes this. For music soulseek is really the best. It is not a torrent, and it is old so requires some trial and error but the end result is well worth it. The biggest problem with it is that files timeout and do not restart so you have to delete and start over. But everything is there and I mean everything in all different quality. So you can d/l everything from FLAC all the way on down.

    Soulseek

You can't download from this site, but for playing music from your computer, it's great. Pretty much has every song ever You can sign in from anywhere and all your favourites and play lists are saved.

switching my torrent client (deluge) on and off usually fixes it

should have mentioned that internet download manager is the simplest way

it pops up automatically whenever a groove shark song is played and asks if you want to download

just rob IDM from a torrent site and install it......works on chrome and firefox like

    here's the IDM method

see the little auto pop up on the bottom left

just click and it downloads...uses an accelerator so a song takes about 10m seconds at over a Mb/S

Many thanks to all for the suggestions and links. Seems to be a connectivity or configuration problem.
Well spotted Dillinger, this dummy forgot all about it.

2 sites I find very useful for music are
    newalbumreleases.net
    exystence.net

There are also specialist sites for the more obscure 70's stuff that I like and a few sites for the 'bootleg' type of music with in the main excellent sound

youtube is the best place for obscure stuff

i can't find a torrent of ancient beatbox anywhere but they have entire concerts on youtube

you can strip the audio and convert to MP3 with audacity
