Amazing live performances that you did not see

In 1991 my GF vetoed a suggestion by me that we go to see Pearl Jam at a small local club. This was 2 years before they became my totally favourite band of the moment and 3 years before they became mega-famous stadium material. A missed opportunity that I cursed for a decade afterwards.

In 1993, just after crossing the Golden-gate bridge on a bicycle and shacking up in some grotty backpackers, I was invited by some fellow backpackers to go and see The Grateful Dead who were making an apparently very rare live appearance that very evening somewhere in some groovy part of San Francisco. I declined the backpacker invitation and the legendary Grateful Dead went on to split up 2 years later to end a revered 30 year career. I did not end up lamenting this decision though, since I was never a fan of the band and I have thought for a long time that all hippies should be burned.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Stockholm - 1969

My parents told me I was too young to go.
What the fuck did they know?
I was one year old already!
    I've never forgiven them.

There's some interesting write ups about the Stockholm gig, most probably because it's one of the few early gigs that has footage, the whole thing is up on Youtube.

They had already toured in 1967... which must have been more remarkable, as it seems the novelty wore off quick for Hendrix and their earlier live recordings are far more dynamic.

Anyway the 1969 gig was two nights and only the first night was recorded for Swedish TV, apparently Jimi was very subdued, which does seem to be apparent in the video, but the second night which wasn't recorded was by all accounts a far more enthusiastic performance. However, it is one of his best renditions of Red House.

I would have been happy to see either... and I'm sure 1 year olds didn't even need a passport in those days... damn my parents!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Oasis, 1995, playing acoustic set at Chesterfields on the Champs Elysees. Free entree on the door, half empty with Noel chatting with a bloke wearing a blue jersey and jeans, as all parisians wear all the time so me and a mate thought we would come back later when it started. We forgot.

The original Sex Pistols last ever UK concert. Christmas 1977 at "Ivanhoe's" in my home town in Huddersfield. It was a concert afternoon matinee for the kids of firemen that were on strike at the time. My mates Dad was a fireman then, and I could have gone to see them, but I was only 12yo and my Mum wouldn't let me; as the band were total Antichrists at the time. According to the media anyhow.

Early '90's missed Buddy Guy playing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Bkk.
I later read that he plugged in an extension and went walkabout around Siam Square playing a solo.

I don't know if it's the original recording or the upconversion when uploaded to Youtube but the high frequency "tizz" was drilling a hole right through my head. Very apparent on both the vocals and guitar sound. A shame.
