    Kate Bush CBE

Kate Bush has said she is "deeply honoured" after being awarded a CBE in the Queen's New Years Honours list.

The singer, who released the 10th studio album of her celebrated career '50 Words For Snow' in 2011, was given the accolade for her services to music.

Bush shot to fame in 1978 when her single 'Wuthering Heights' hit Number One in the UK Singles Chart and has since gone on to release a slew of classic albums including 'The Kick Inside', 'Hounds Of Love', 'The Red Shoes', 'The Sensual World' and 'Aerial'.

Although her output was prolific in the late 70s and throughout the rest of the 80s, she spent a large time out of the public eye with a 12-year gap between 1993's 'Red Shoes' and 2005's 'Aerial'. She then took another six-year break before releasing two albums - '50 Words For Snow' and 'Director's Cut' - in 2011.

Speaking about the accolade, she said:
It's a great surprise and I'm really delighted. Thanks to everyone who's encouraged and supported my work over the years.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Wuthering Heights (the song) was brilliant and the video extremely sensuous.

Apart from a piece part in one of Peter Gabriel's ballads what else did she do?

She wrote and released 10 albums and didn't die with a tangerine in her mouth.

I've designed and released 10 different bucket designs but that has not won me a new years honours title.

The heroes that built what you lot had and then lost must be turning in their fucking graves.

What do they give you in Aus when you die with your pants down and a belt around your neck dressed in womens underware and a tangerine in your mouth?

Obviously not what your Queen hands out to someone who writes a few mediocre songs to make a living. Tell me mate............How many lives did she improve when she was doing her chosen job?

Then again we are too far away from Charlie to give him a head job as that what it seems to take to win these type of awards.

I'll leave that to Sir Clive Woodward and the rank and file royal selected celebrities.

Bit harsh Loy Toy. She may not be everyones cup of tea but she is talented and without a doubt an inspiration to many female singers that followed in the years since her debut. She's an individual with her own style, which should at least count for something these days. On top of that she was quite fit. I think the Queen is a right royal cnut, but the honors list is one way of giving mere mortals the recognition they deserve.

I thought you were quite keen on female ballads.. give this a spin.

No doubt mate but as an Aussie I probably feel there are far more deserving individuals out there that deserve such highly respected awards more then these type of celebrities that made a fortune out of doing something they loved doing.

Whether you Brits, and with all due respects as I wont try to insult you personally, think that a person like Kate Bush deserves this title then so be it.

I reckon there are many non celebrities out there that really deserve recognition that have served her majesty and the people admirably, and without making a fortune doing so, who will not be honoured because they are in the media's eyes a nobody.

These awards are a sham and I wonder how many of Kate Bush's albums mam has in her collection.

Bradley Wiggins got an award too, but I doubt if Liz rides a bicycle.

Anyway... there are many others that have been honored, most of them are complete unknowns you'll be pleased to hear. Most of them are toffs and none could sing as well as Kate, but you know.. just to put things in perspective.

The honours list has people from across the board - there will be some artists and entertainers, some businessmen, a fair slather of politicos of various stripes, as well as those involved in charities and social works.

Don't forget that Kate Bush was highlighted by the press/media - not surprising. However, I am sure many, many worthy individuals efforts were also recognized.

As for Kate - Good on yer lass.

By the way LT- saw this and thought you might apreciate it:

Jerry Roberts; a member of Testery Section at Bletchley Park that broke the Tunny Code shortening World War II by two years saving millions of lives has been given an MBE whereas the irritating Cherie Blair got the higher CBE.

A statement has been issued by Bletchley Park: NGFUCKI GRACEDIS

^ Thanks mate for the information and I am sure a lot of recipients of these awards are pretty much astounded if not embarrassed.

I don't know if this story was true or not but I can remember reading that John Lennon and Paul McCartney smoked a spliff in Mam's powder room whilst waiting to receive their MBE's at Buckingham Palace.

The ironic twist is that Richard Nixon saw Lennon as a huge risk to homeland security and had him tailed by the fBI as a probable spy.
