Sandy Denny : Singer, songwriter and musician

Probably one of the greatest all round female musicians to have lived. Many of her songs are covered by other artists and who knows what else she would have produced had she not died so soon.

Saw her with Fairport Convention at Santa Barbara Co Bowl back in '76 opening for Loggins & Messina. She was so good the crowd was like heavily stoned - literally and figuratively. Was some good herb available that night but Fairport Convention & Sandy Denny were like really good!

I've got her entire discography in my collection somewhere but never really listened to it. I think I need to change that some day.

I do prefer a similar styled Melanie safka though. Her voice does me in.

That's two hours of my life I will never get back because of this thread!!

I remember years ago there was one song that I heard and loved that made me download Sandy Denny's discography (which as I said I haven't yet listened to) and I've been trying to find that song for hours.

Turns out it was a song called 'Lay Down' she sang with 'The Strawbs', and that's why I couldn't find it.

Did she sing with The Strawbs a lot?

No not often, but Fairport where a revolving door, What made it so unusual. Sandy voice haunts me to this day. I was addicted the first time I heard her and still am to this day!!!!

Mady Prior was good Sandy was from another Planet. First concert I went to was as an 18 year old at Uni. I thought I was part of an elite being a Fairport Fan. The Free trade Hall was half full of school kids moshing to the rock from a bygone era. Mady would sing and people stopped breathing. Dam now I will be up all night listening to her stuff again.
