In the case of Pink Floyd this is surely true. But of the parts who is best Gilmour or Waters.

roger waters.
but that's coming from a philistine.the wall in berlin was a great gig .
saw pink floyd many times, and they never disappointed.
i saw roger waters a few years ago, he did a concert in bangkok and he was superb, as was his band, some top musicians played and if anything improved the songs.
gilmour has gone a different softer route, nothing wrong with that, but i like waters harder style better.
sadly they will never play again as pink floyd, the wall concerts at earls court all those years ago were live rock at its best, apart from the who, or led zep, or springsteen or neil young and crazy horse etc.etc.etc.
Some great choices there Tax
There is a lot of music I need to discover, I was always into Pop Music, bit of Lovers Rock Reggae, Trance,R&B and I love Soul music.
I can listen to anything judging on my mood, I enjoy classical sometimes and Rap, even Jazz in the right surroundings.
As for your 2 picks Crocman, judging by those 2 vids I would have to say Walters, that first one sent me to sleep, probably a nice Sunday Morning sombre tune. Although I need to listen to a song 3 times before deciding if I like it or not.
I will get back to you
heres waters with his 2010 wall tour, all 2 HD hours of it.
^ Enjoyin that now
I'll always take Waters...
Gilmore's a right arrogant wanker.
^
you dont know much about roger waters do you? or gilmore for that matter.
There are two Pink Floyds with Meddle perhaps marking the transition from one to the other. I preferred the earlier incarnation which was by far the more interesting, innovative and, ultimately, exciting.
Mind you, my prediliction at the time for acid might have influenced my judgement but what better soundtrack to a bad trip than Careful of that axe, Eugene?
Some great comments. It's a hard but personal choice, but I come down on the side of Gilmour.Waters is sensational touring The Wall the way he originally intended and his band may be able to replicate Gilmours guitar but nobody could match his haunting soulful voice.
small point but i believe it was careful WITH that axe.Careful of that axe, Eugene?

I saw Walter's Band in Bangkok and although he had some fine musicians including Snowy White and Andy Fairweather Low to honest it was a very disappointing concert.Originally Posted by taxexile

For me Gilmour rules.
the hall had very bad acoustics, that may have had something to do with it.a very disappointing concert.
I would agree with that but playing "Brick in the Wall" as an opening song, or at least 1 of the first three songs left the concert without a finale.Originally Posted by taxexile
To be honest listening to Pink Floyd songs being sung by other people and without Gilmore's genius left me and most of the other people there that night pretty empty.
Meeting Andy Fairweather Low was a highlight for me and the drinks with some of the band down in Soi 4 made up for a pretty poor concert.
If you watch the live 8 re-union you can see Waters eyeing off Gilmour with half envious/half BASTARD look.
must have been the same dayOriginally Posted by thegent
Possibly, but nothing could detract from the utter tedium of having to listen that cod operatic tosh of Another Brick in the Wall. Dreadful rubbish but made Genesis and Phil Collins seem almost relevant and entertaining.
Even the greats do stupid things and the self indulgent Floyd stuff was simply more evidence confirming no one was immune.
Essentially, Astronomy Domine, Set the controls for the heart of the Sun, Grantchester Meadows, Atom Heart Mother, Careful of/with that axe Eugene, See Emily Play, and pretty well all of Ummagumma marked their high tide and everything else was drivelling Hollywood movie soundtracks, inflatable balloons and money.
Syd is laughing.
I thought their best album was wish you were here, the wall shows were spectacular and the music good too.
The anthemic we dont need no education has stood the test of time and remains valid today.
Perhaps you gave up your acid habit prematurely.
^ Loved Wish you were here but Dark side of the moon will live with me forever.
If you were at that concert in Bangkok I thought it was quite funny with all the Thais walking out complaining that Waters didn't play Brick in the wall.
Being fashionably late meant that they missed him playing it at the start of the first set.
