    Converting Raster Graphics?

Don't know if anyone has any experience in this but what the hell.

I'm looking for a 'program' or process that can readily convert Raster Graphic images into Vector Graphics that can then be manipulated in Illustrator.

The situation is thus, I have to edit a series of drawings that are basically electrical schematics or block diagrams.

In using the "live trace" function in Illustrator the results look like something drawn free-hand.

I currently have but two choices, redraw the entire graphic (trace over on another layer), or try and edit it in Photoshop. The Photoshop method works but takes a fair amount of time and multiple steps to get it back into a Word Doc (with the proper footers and headers) and then to Adobe PDF.

    Any suggestions?

PS: anyone know of a resource to get a 'quickie' course on Illustrator with the object being technical drawing?

    Question:
Is it possible to convert a raster graphic into a vector graphic?

    Answer:
A raster graphic, which is made up of a specific number of pixels cannot be translated into a vector graphic, an image made up of paths. That being said, some programs like Macromedia Flash can create paths out of raster graphics so that they can be manipulated as vector images. This conversion typically reduces the image's size significantly, but different areas of the image are approximated, giving the image a stained-glass look.
