    Satchanalai

This is another 14th century ruin, same period as Sukothai.
Very interesting and not many visitors like Sukothai.
I got directions and made sure to turn left.

Sukhothai Province. Amphoe Sri Satchanalai. The whole region is highly historical.

Have to admit I had to look it up, never heard of Satchanalai before, seems it is a world heritage site and the Thais are keeping it secret from us

Si Satchanalai National Park (Sukhothai - Si Satchanalai National Park)
2007 trip to Satchanalai (Si Satchanalai-Chaliang Historical park 07)

Most of the 2-day trippers into Sukhothai usually miss the Park to the north, and do their thing at the principle old capital city site. Sri Satch is quite the place. 9 out of 10 days, you can explore without the crowds. Even though it was just recently put under the same UNESCO World Heritage classification as Muang Khao in Sukhothai proper, it doesn't receive anywhere near the attention. It was the first real civilized populated area and much older than the Sukhothai Kingdom. The Park is vast. All the expected ruins, great ancient kiln sites {still in tact}, a couple of very interesting museums and exhibits. Even today, as Sukhothai get it's every 2nd year flooding, the rivers have been known to wash banks away to reveal old pots and whatnot.....the river was the key to transport from Sri Satch to Sukhothai and through Phitsanulok. Very interesting region.
