| The Village of Abbeystead in Lancashire will always be remembered for the disaster which took place there in 1984 when an explosion in a New Water Pumping Station caused by a build up of methane gas killed sixteen people. Plaque commemorating the 1984 Abbeystead Explosion ... Both of the above links are worth a viewing. The Village has a certain feeling of sadness about it even today. Maybe visiting the same in Autumn didn't help. Life is peculiar at times. There are some spectacular places in the area in general though.
