    Oliver Stone's Film, "W"

Always critical of "movies" being made about history and historical figures, you can get a look at the original screenplay here on pdf. The opening scene is where speechwriters are trying to find a soundbyte. It starts off at "Axis of Hate," but the decide "Axis of Evil" sounds better.

According to scholars, some elements of this film are accurate and other parts, just made up.

The movie - from reviews I've read, is a load of ca ca. Portrays Dubya in the lowest light possible. Basically, another hit piece. Oliver Stone should stick with making movies about his hero's like Fidel Castro/Che Guevara etc...

It's actually a remake of "The Simpsons Movie" except using dummies instead of cartoon characters.

From the comments above, I agree. I also see this as some cheap form of "entertainment" or criticism.

There are at least 17 books out on George W. Bush, and he isn't even finished in office yet. After his term end, there may be some more honesty and detail about the administration from the senior advisors, etc., who love to pen "memoirs."

My point: any movie is limited, and this one will be, too.

I'm not an Oliver Stone fan when it comes to 1. history and 2. historical stuff, he's done.

I did like Wall Street and its main writer is the same guy who has written "W."

Hardly a failure Butterfy - W become a two term yank pressie and that alone is an amazing accomplishment. Stone makes entertaining movies however you need to suspend your disbelief because for the most part its all fiction.

Wall Street, Platoon, Alexander were his best, and I liked World Trade Center too.

I was watching a movie called "Obsession" about radical Islam last night. Seemed good and then I fell asleep even before popcorn intermission.

GWB had good campaign managers. Rove knew what groups GWB needed in his tent and he played specifically to those groups. Nader got the state of Oregon, a blue state in 2000.

Note, that both elections were razor tight, and 2000 was disputed and Ohio in 2004 was dubious.

    Nevertheless, GWB did win.

That's news to me. Has he been cheating on his wife? Perhaps you should give the MSM your findings so they can run with it?

Guess so. It's been happening alot to me lately.

I agree with the viewpoints on distorted history. Stone likes to twist scenarios, which then stay in the viewers' minds as the "truth".

I'm not a fan of Stone, and I don't like "biography" movies, but this film will be released before the election, in less than 5 months. It won't mean much, IMO, but it'll be interesting perhaps.

FILM HAS A FEW WORDS ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT

May 13, 2008 -- YOU'VE maybe heard about "W.," Oliver Stone's tough feature film about Bush. Stone calls him "horrible . . . worst in history." Josh Brolin plays W.; Elizabeth Banks, Laura; James Cromwell, papa Bush; Ellen Burstyn, mama Barbara; Thandie Newton, Condoleezza. First-ever movie about a sitting president, shooting in Shreveport, La., is so hush-hush secret that all scripts are embargoed. Watermarked so that each is traceable.

So do not ask - do not - how one is now in my own sticky fingers. Do not ask. If I answered, which I won't, I'd have to lie. A supposed chronicle of his presidency, every scene or shard of dialogue is theoretically - if not proven fact - within the realm of repeated rumor. No imaginary scenes off the deep end. Stone's trying for legitimacy so he won't get pilloried. Or audited.

Here's Karl Rove making W. memorize answers, telling him, "Before you speak, come to me first. I'll tell you what to say." W. chiding late-arriving "Balloonfoot" Powell, saying military men should know about being on time. Rumsfeld, who's hard of hearing. W. happy when Cheney laughs at his cowboy-delivered twang. Cheney stepping in cow poop at Crawford. W. eating his favorite White House bologna sandwich lunch.

In all presidential erudition, telling Gen. Tommy Franks to be sure what he's doing: "I don't want to fire no $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the a - -." Then: "Americans don't like to see dead boys on their television sets." Telling education reformers: "Rarely is the question asked, 'Is our children learning?' "

Page 10 on Bill Clinton: "My mother waddles faster than that larda - -." Page 11: "We'll move these terr'ists to Guantanemera." Cheney: "Guantanamo." Bush: "Right." Then Bush to Cheney: "Vice, when we're in meetings I want you to keep a lid on it. Keep your ego in check. Remember, I'm the president."

Flashbacks have college-boy W. boozing, slacking off from work, in jail, calling his then-congressman father "Poppy." Sr. praising Jeb, castigating Jr., asking if he's "knocked up" a girl named Susie, complaining, "You never kept your word once . . . you're only good for partying, chasing tail, driving drunk . . . You deeply disappoint me." Repeat father and son arguments. Father: "I've had enough of your crap." Son: "I've had enough of you for a lifetime." Mama Barbara breaking up the near fisticuffs with announcing Jr. just made Harvard and Sr. responding, "But who do you think pulled the strings?"

Not all. Where did your read this?

I don't plan on watching it, but it'll be out in less than 4 months. I have read interviews from the cast, crew, and writers.

It's not a polemic. Although I'll listen carefully for some biases, which may, or may not - be in the film.

Ya mean GWB isn't a complete tard and doofus ?

Hang about the movie hasn't come out yet, so how could Oliver Stone have planted that impression in my mind ?
