I have only met two Thai's that actually knew what they were doing on a bike, one is Vikrom and the other used to do some work for me on a occasion, he was dammed good but made more money by buying seafood and bring it to Bangkok to sell.
The rest, waste of time, all big heads that wouldn't be able to get a job in the West.
First question you should ask in a shop is "wheres your torque wrench?"
99.9 % won't know what the hell you are talking about. Its tells you a lot about the technical training here.
I have shop manuals for almost every bike in Thailand but could you get them to read them, not a hope in hell, even tho I got the relevant parts translated into Thai, They are just too big headed to bother.

    Hey guys,

(I'm a newb on here and will be heading out to Thailand in the near future, hence why I'm here!)

I'm current running an 07 blade and an 03 DRZ. I figure it'll be too expensive to get them shipped out and have to pay whatever durty/import tax on them so I might sell them here and get an 08 blade when I get out there.

Question I have is, how common are mainstream sports bikes out there? Or is it even worth me getting one? While the roads here in the UK permit me to ride how I want, it's the weather that usually stops it!

Both excellent bikes Neddy, Its a hassle bringing them in and theb are quite easy to procure here probably for the same price or near enough to as you would get them in the UK, No weather problems here aprt from the fact that riding in leathers can make your balls sweat a bit. Of course its worth getting one, some good rides here and ride as fast as you like.

I still have that 250 Yamaha R1Z I bought from Squirrel's mate Joe from a post on this forum. Great bike. Faster than snot. It reminds me, size, weight, handling-wise of my old Suzuki Bandit 400/4, but faster.

Any idea of the wait difference between the R1-z and a the TDR250 and TZM250.

I imagine -z must be a good 5kg or more down on them.

Next project for you Rigger should be a single cylinder sports bike.

There is a race series in the UK for fourstrokers. People take RGV250s and whack in DR800 engines.

Also seen a few RGV250 size bikes with Cr500 engines fitted to them.

Three suitcases and 4 boxes of parts. Only missing two bits now, the engine and the frame which should be here next week.
I wish I just went out and bought one like everyone else.
Anyone here a auto electrician as I dont want to use the bulky standard wiring harness and want to try and hide as much wiring as possible

wiring isn't that difficult, its a matter of having the correct connectors and wire of couse but trying to makae do with the crap connector range here is difficult. unless you are omiting all lighting & instruments I don't see there is a lot you can dump out of the original wiring loom.

There are probably some Thais that could do a good job of it or try and modify the original yourself then use that as a template for a new one. get your switchgear wires inside the handlebars etc. Web should have some ideas for you.

When I was in klong thom -the tool area in Bangkok- I saw all the connectors you would need. Although I only saw the white ones which aren't UV stabalised. You need black which they should have.

    Yer right there, young Bung,
you can get most, certainly not all, things here, the expertise you need to acquire is knowing where to look and having the time to do so.
