Agreed (as I am sure EC would also) but I can never forget the balls up he made at the Live Aid concert (I think it was). Really stoned and petrified and based upon some insider reports and totally shite.
Drugs can be productive and when you are sitting in your recording studio and being creative but to come on stage totally wacked it is not fair to the paying public.
I can only think of one performer who could pull it off and that was Joe Cocker.
