Funny you mentioned them here, but those 'Happy Pizza' (and there was more than just one) places in Phnom Penh have all been subject to a big crackdown recently.

Shame, I like those happy pizza places by the river. Perfect way to enjoy the sunset.

Here's what I heard on the happy pizza was because the US DEA is there and using aid money as a leverage point.

A shame if true. Any truth to this.

Next time, try the Mexican place, called 'Cantina'. Best Mexican food I've had in SEA. It's on Sisowath near where those Happy Pizza joints are. On the wall are some of Al Rockoff's photos from the Vietnam War era as well as some stills from the movie 'City of Ghosts', which was filmed there.

Fucking US DEA is trying to close up the happy pizza shops just when I am getting ready to go. Jail in Bali sucks.

I didn't click the DEA link above, but it's ASEAN that is closing the happy pizza shops, right?

I can't speak for KPG or other places but I know someone on Koh Chang that was caught with about 1 gram of pot. There was no attempt at a bribe or extortion. They went through the courts and ended up with a 10,000 baht fine and were not deported.
A funny side story to that is that on the same day another farang who owned some bungalows was caught with a small amount as well. After the cops had left one of his staff went into the bungalow to clean it and discovered one of the cops forgot his gun there. After a phone call he was promptly released without charges.

Things have changed drastically. I just spent the last 30 days with my pot-smoking 20 year old son (who's also a top Uni student, so don't add any nasty comments), and we did the stoner Island tour etc., and the whole place is basically locked down.

We drove there and it is a shadow of its former self. Cops routinely get 90,000 Baht to shake down offenders. KPG cops are the richest in Thailand.

Stay away from Haad Rin is the best bet for that island, that's where the cops target people. Apart from the odd road block search that is.

Which is basically due to countries not wanting to seem "Soft on Drugs". Thats obviously far more important than the lives of the poor unfortunates who get caught with piddling little amounts like this.

We never went to Haad Rin. There is a famous ocean view longtime 420 friendly bar north of Thong Sala that has completely been shut down. I talked to the owner. He said shit has hit the fan.
