Connections and patronage. I don't see that changing any time soon. Thaksin fell from grace and lost his patron (or put same in an untenable position), now it just remains to be seen how much he has in terms of other forms of leverage, including embarrassing information about other elites. I suspect there are lots of highly-placed persons here who don't want old Square Face thinking he has nothing to lose.
