I agree, and sadly I see this has already occurred in the US. Medicare and Social Security have been mismanaged by the government. People want low taxes which I understand, but they also want entitlements, which are just about 50% (or more) of the USA budget.

This is the case, generally. As for Europe they are moving away from the entitlement era. The older generations will luck out, the younger will not be so lucky.
