    Microwaves - horrible things

The other half has wanted a microwave since seeing one at a friends house, despite my protests, she got me one for my birthday. I don't see that they serve any useful purpose to somebody who likes real food. They ruin eggs and making coffee in them should be a punishable offence. She also figured it would be a more practical way of making toast as this method doesn't produce any crumbs.

It's her birthday next month, I'm going to buy her a pool table.

I use the microwave for two things, reheating food and defrosting food, dont use it to cook, period.

In fact only just recently bought a microwave having not had one for the last 2 years or so. An Indonesian friend saw us buying it and expressed surprise that I didnt have one already

"don't all bule (westerners) have one??

A microwave can be handy in the kitchen, but it has a limited appeal in LOS. Back in Blighty, one can melt butter, make scambled eggs, make very quick instant coffee and cook garlic mushrooms in under two minutes. My Mum has one and she would be lost without it.

In LOS, my MIL has one and she uses it to stand the phone on. Other than that, it seves no usefull purpose.

I don't understand why your wife has wax legs, but its OK I guess.

But Micro's are good for a lot of things,, give the kids a dozen eggs and a micro and they will have a hell of a time til all the eggs are gone.
You can use it to dry cats and those darling little dogs that yap all the time after you have given them their bath and have failed to drown the worthless bastards.

We had a microwave. "Good for cooking fish" says I.
Later whilst having a quiet read.
"No good for cooking fish. Makes too much bang"

Yup, fish wrapped in silver foil placed in microwave on full power fucks up microwaves.

    We'll stick to the BBQ

    Bless her

The kids did 'em one at a time 'till we stopped caught them.
Nope, don't think so. The RSPA would get very excited. You can't even use a golf club nowadays.

There is a science to cooking with a microwave -- if you don't understand the fundamentals, you'll miss the point entirely. If you're trying to render gourmet, seven-course meals from a microwave, you're off the mark. It's use is limited.

The selection of microwaveable foods, however, has come a long way in the past few years -- not Thailand though.

Hundreds of selections of full-on meals available in your grocer's freezers. Nothing resembling the crappy selection of cardboard pizzas and potpies (meatpies) of years gone by. A microwave oven becomes far more useful if you have a great spread of options.

Of course if you live in Thailand, there is nothing of the sort. And the options that are available are ridiculously priced, making them even less desirable.

CP has shops selling frozen food.
They are producing so much of them they even export them to Germany.

That was to prove that Texpat got a false impression that there is no microwave food in Thailand.

Actually it is better than I thought.
