    Oh, that's OK, then.

Another charming trick, still practised in some communities, is to sew them up when they are young and let the husband have the pleasure of breaking the stitches on the wedding night.

I once saw a documentary of a band of chimps attacking another band of chimps and eating their babies. Since that day I've despised all mammals.

Poor old bob just can't grab the point. The women have to go through this because of their religion, not because of a personal choice. Your muslim women are not only lying to themselves but also to any future husband. I've never heard of a woman having this op as a Valentine's present before but then maybe all your "colleagues" in arms are muslim.

They are, and as we only have a small number of women to reward them with we 're spending a bloody fortune having to constantly renew their virginity.

So THAT'S where they get the 72 virgins from ...

A slight technicality. Guess those muzzies didn't bother to read the fine print.

Well, I'm trying to instill some reality into this debate rather than hyperbole and the over the top statements being recycled until they become facts.

Male circumcision is actually a good deal more painful than female, with the exception of a particularly barbaric style still practised in the horn of Africa area.

I can run with that. Primitive religious practices are quite barbaric enough without hysterical embellishment.

For one example, the sucking off of boys' foreskins by a 57 year old mohel in New York was found to have given genital herpes to several of them. At least two died. Mayor Bloomberg decided not to ban the practice. That was in 2005.

Not sure. I'll check my more recent text reference when I get to it later. I also have to limit my internet research of topics like this mainly to the evenings because of my present location. Evening here is later than in LOS.

    Does this fit the definition:

'Worldwide, more than 130 million girls and women are believed to have undergone female genital mutilation. And each year, 2 million girls are estimated to be at risk of undergoing FGM.'

^ Did the article also mention how many people are subjected to male genital mutilation?

    I've dug out these:

.:: Welcome To The Jewish Ledger ::.

Babie dies after unsanitary ritual circumcision.

UPDATED Circumcision and Sucking on Penis by Rabbis is a Jewish Practice

Another disgusting religious practice. - By Christopher Hitchens - Slate Magazine (Christopher Hitchens has written a book called 'God Is Not Great')

Not muslim mutilation, granted, but another example of how primitive are these religions.

Religion seems to be the root of the oppression of women generally, and the liberation of women in the west must be related to the declining popularity of the church.

There's certainly a link, but don't you think that religion has been responsible for repressing male and female alike?

Most certainly! Religion has been a tool used to subjugate the masses to the will of the ruling elite for thousands of years.

So what do you make of MLK's:

Bit of an oxymoron isn't it?
